In this new permanent full time hands-on role, you won’t just manage data—you’ll elevate it. You’ll shape how critical data is governed, trusted, and used across the business, working alongside data engineers, analysts, and key stakeholders to embed best-in-class data practices.
From driving data quality and setting standards to managing metadata and unlocking insights, you’ll be at the forefront of enabling smarter, data-driven decisions. You’ll also play a key role in fostering a culture where data is treated as a strategic asset.
Key Responsibilities:
• Data Stewardship & Governance Execution - Execute data governance processes within assigned data domains
• Metadata Management and Documentation - Partner with Business Data Stewards to maintain consistent business metadata, technical metadata, and lineage across governed datasets
• Data Quality Management - Track recurring issues and escalate risks to the Data Governance Lead
• Reporting & Analytics Enablement - Support BI and reporting teams with trusted, governed datasets
• Business Steward Engagement & Alignment - Facilitate alignment between business owned data and technical data implementation (Data Products vs Data Assets in Purview)
• Change and Impact Management - Participate in data solution design and impact assessments
• Data Security and Privacy Support - Support implementing governance controls for data access and classification across various BI systems, like Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Workspaces, including raw level security, as well as legacy DW in SQL Server.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Education - Engage with business and technical stakeholders to relevant data governance activities.
Experience & Expertise:
Essential
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Data Steward, Data Analyst, BI, or related data role.
• Demonstrated experience in Data Governance and Stewardship, with a well-rounded understanding of data ownership, quality, governance, and accountability—not limited to reporting and analytics.
• Exposure to metadata management, data lineage, and data catalogue concepts within an enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience using data governance tools.
• Proven experience partnering with business stakeholders to define data definitions, business rules, and data standards.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with business SMEs.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview or other data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation).
• Understanding of application development and software development life cycle concepts.
Desirable
• Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data catalogue / governance tools
• Understanding of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, including governed self service analytics
• Experience working in Agile teams with knowledge of Scrum or Kanban
• Understanding of data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g. APRA, GDPR fundamentals)
To be considered for this role you will have / be:
• Bachelor's degree in information management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• A Master’s degree in Data Management, Business Administration, or related disciplines is preferred.
• Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or DGCP (Data Governance and Compliance Professional) are highly valued.
