Basic Job Functions:

The Technical Crane Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing automatic overhead cranes equipped with advanced L2 Warehouse Management System (WMS), L1 systems, Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and CCTV cameras. This shift-based role requires proficiency in these systems and a commitment to safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate should have a passion for continuous learning, adaptability in fast-paced environments, and a proactive approach to technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overhead crane operation: Operate automatic overhead cranes from remote control desk, remote control and crane cabin. Operate the crane in manual mode, semi-automatic mode and automatic mode.

  • Ground Safety: Monitor ground safety equipment’s and control access authorization on the crane working area.

  • Automated Equipment: Perform troubleshooting for basic failures and participate in troubleshoot together with maintenance for automatic cranes. Perform minor repairs and adjustments.

  • HMI Expertise: Interact with HMI systems to identify equipment status, recognize and troubleshoot alarms, monitor crane operation and define setup and operation modes for cranes.

  • System Monitoring and Optimization: Utilizes Level 2 systems for operation, monitoring system performance, identifying improvement areas, and applying best practices.

  • Reporting Maintain detailed records of actions, manual interactions and adjustments on automated cranes and systems.

  • Continuous Learning and Improvement Demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to evolving industry practices, and contribute to process enhancements.

  • Safety and Compliance Ensure all work complies with industry safety standards and organizational protocols.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven experience or certification in automation, robotics, electrical, data analysis, technical fields.
  • Experience working in an industrial environment preferably in a steel mill or similar.
  • Ability to work well within cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating overhead cranes, preferably in a steel mill or similar industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Familiarity with L2 WMS, L1 systems (including HMI screens, positioning monitoring with encoders and radars, and wireless network), and CCTV camera operations.
