Job Description

You’ve put the years in as a Painter & Decorator - now it’s time to get more out of it!

You have built your skills the hard way, on site, solving problems, working with different products, and delivering quality work day in, day out. That experience is valuable, and it should open doors for you, not limit you.

This is your opportunity to take everything you have learned on the tools and turn it into a long term career that offers more variety, less physical strain, and genuine progression. You will still be close to the work, the products, and the challenges, but in a way that uses your expertise differently, within our Research and Development team.

Step off the tools, not away from what you’re good at.

This role is all about evolving your career, not starting again. You will still be using your technical knowledge every day, just in a smarter, more sustainable way.

• Less wear and tear on your body, with a stronger focus on problem solving and technical expertise
• A varied role that combines lab work, site visits, and collaboration with our R&D teams
• The chance to influence how products are developed and perform, not just apply them
• A position where your experience is recognised, respected, and genuinely valued

Your experience becomes your edge

What you have learned on site gives you a real advantage here. You understand the challenges, the environments, and what good looks like, and that insight is exactly what we need.

• Investigate paint and application issues, using your experience to identify root causes
• Visit sites and provide practical, credible advice that customers trust
• Work closely with R&D teams to help shape and improve products
• Support product testing and technical evaluations in both lab and real world conditions
• Create samples and technical support materials that bring products to life

We’re looking for decorators who want more

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the trade but is ready for a new challenge and a different pace.

• NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating, or Level 2 with strong hands on experience
• Solid, practical decorating experience across a range of surfaces and products
• A natural problem solving mindset and attention to detail
• Open to learning new systems and ways of working in a modern environment
• Confident communication skills, with the ability to build trust with customers and colleagues
• Full UK driving licence, as the role includes UK travel and occasional European visits

A role with real balance and long term security

This is about creating a career that works for you, both now and in the future.

• 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, giving you time to properly switch off
• A strong pension scheme with 6 percent employee and 12 percent employer contributions
• Discounts on Crown Paints products
• A stable, long term role within an established business, with real opportunities to progress

Ready for your next step?

You have already built the experience. Now it is time to use it in a way that gives you more back.

Apply now and start building a career that works for you long term.

The interview process will consist of 2 onsite interviews involved practical assessments of paint application and site tours.
