Job Description

Talcott Financial Group* is an international life insurance company committed to providing comprehensive risk solutions to its customers. Whether it’s providing peace of mind for policyholders approaching retirement, or helping insurers solve complex risk and capital challenges, Talcott delivers practical solutions that support long-term stability for policyholders and clients.

Talcott offers the strength of an established organization with the mindset and approach of a modern platform. The enterprise is supported by a proven track record of well-executed transactions, investment-grade financial strength ratings, and strong financial position, with over $136 billion in assets under management. Talcott also benefits from a strategic partnership with Sixth Street, a leading global investment firm managing over $135 billion in assets.

Talcott’s approach to business is disciplined, transparent, and multi-channel, spanning retail annuities, block and flow reinsurance, and legal entity acquisitions. We have offices in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Connecticut, New York, and North Carolina.

Talcott's Summer Internship Program gives students a dynamic, rewarding opportunity to take on real business challenges. Over this fast-paced ten-week program, students work side by side with our industry professionals. The internship is hybrid, with onsite work at our contemporary Hartford, Connecticut campus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Interns take on business assignments that build their technical expertise, business knowledge and leadership skills. Beyond hands-on learning, the program offers a full calendar of enrichment activities and frequent social events where interns meet members of our leadership team and colleagues across many disciplines.

Talcott is seeking a Technical Business Analyst Intern to join our Information Technology department. The intern will learn how data moves across Talcott's retail annuity platform. This role sits where annuity operations, finance and data meet. The goal is to tie that data to the downstream enterprise feeds that support Finance and Actuarial. The ideal candidate is curious about both the business and the data behind it. They will see the flow of a financial business event, such as a premium deposit, withdrawal, surrender, annuitization or commission payment, from the source system all the way to the general ledger and actuarial reporting. The intern will work closely with Software Engineers, Business Analysts, and Finance and Actuarial partners. This internship will work onsite in Hartford. CT. office on a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage SQL, Python, Azure and MS Fabric to analyze, validate and document data flows for Talcott's Business Applications portfolio.
  • Analyze data to understand how business transactions are captured, transformed and stored
  • Trace financial business events end to end, from source systems to downstream Finance (general ledger, sub-ledger) and Actuarial feeds, and identify gaps, breaks and reconciliation issues
  • Translate financial business events into Finance requirements, data mapping documents and technical specifications
  • Write SQL queries and use Python, Azure and MS Fabric to profile and reconcile data across systems
  • Document data lineage, field-level mappings and business rules that connect operational data to enterprise reporting
  • Recommend improvements to data quality, controls and process efficiency

Qualifications

  • Student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science or a related field
  • Working knowledge of SQL and an eagerness to learn Python, MS Fabric, Power BI and Azure data tools
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail, with the ability to connect data patterns to business outcomes
  • Interest in insurance, annuities or financial services is a plus
  • Ability to explain technical findings in business terms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Previous internship experience is preferred
  • Drive for continuous learning and growth
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to "do what it takes" to meet business deliverables
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities
