Salary: Up to £74,000 (DOE)

You will take the lead on the technical design of Shared Infrastructure (SI) on the Type 26 Frigate under the guidance of the Systems Design Authority. Shared Infrastructure provides the network, shared IT services and hosting/computing environment for the ship's Combat System. A key part of this role is communicating with the customer to manage the technical elements of change requests, observations raised and deliveries, and taking the system through acceptance testing. You will also work closely with other technical leads within the team to resolve any observations raised by platform or integration teams.

Core duties:

  • Be the technical point of contact for the customer's technical lead and platform integration teams
  • Provide technical direction to the SI engineering team for the project, maintaining an overall SI product approach
  • Review requirements, design and test documentation and provide comments ensuring quality and accuracy of information
  • Support acceptance events

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of systems design, integration & test, ideally in computing/electronic systems in Defence domain
  • Practical experience across significant stages of the software/systems lifecycle, such as requirements, design, implementation, integration and verification
  • Awareness of networking and virtualisation
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline such as Software or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics. You should also be Chartered or working towards

The Shared Infrastructure Product Team:

The SI team provides the network and computing infrastructure solution (on COTS hardware) for Royal Navy (RN) warships across the Fleet, supporting Ship's Mission Systems. This role specifically looks after the Type 26 class, working to bring first of class into service.

This is part of the Combat Systems group which provide diverse Mission systems to every ship in the RN Fleet. This role interacts with these system providers as well as external system providers.

The Combat Systems SI team are currently developing the next generation of Infrastructure for all classes which will support the RNs move to a Hybrid Navy.
