Technical Artist Intern

Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. The Medical Visualization team in Naples, Florida is responsible for developing interactive applications using emerging technologies for the purpose of educating and assisting surgeons and visually communicating the science behind the medical technology created at Arthrex. We are searching for an intern pursuing a degree in 3D Graphics, Engineering, Computer Science or Interactive Media to support the Medical Visualization team. A successful candidate will assist in the development of art processes, marketing content, upcoming products, and medical education. The individual will follow standards and guidelines for consistent corporate identity and follow pre-established process flows. This internship will run from January 2027 – April 2027. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work at least 25 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.

Main Objective:

To gain real-world experience working as a 3D Technical Artist in a corporate environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Explore emerging visualization, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) technologies to support the development of interactive 3D applications.
  • Create and refine materials, textures, and shaders for anatomical models, products, and virtual environments.
  • Organize, maintain, and optimize 3D asset and product libraries across multiple platforms and applications.
  • Evaluate tools, plugins, and software development kits (SDKs) to support new features and document findings for team implementation.
  • Develop high-quality 3D visualizations of products, anatomical structures, environments, and virtual production sets.
  • Support AI-driven image and 3D asset generation workflows, content pipelines, and automation scripting efforts.
  • Manage and maintain digital assets within Unity, Unreal Engine, and content management systems (CMS).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance real-time visualization, simulation, and interactive experiences.

Education and Experience:

  • A college senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in 3D Graphics, Interactive Media, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field required. (Recent graduates must be within six months of their graduation date to qualify.)
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn and apply new tools, workflows, and technologies in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Proficiency with CAD software is required.
  • Experience with two or more of the following technologies is required: Unity, Unreal Engine, Autodesk Maya, Visual Studio, Omniverse, Rider, Pixyz, 3ds Max, or 3D graphics development.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is required: programming, software testing, automation, scripting, 3D mathematics, or large language model (LLM) training.
  • Be able to follow written and verbal direction.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. Fax; Scanner.
