Job Description

The technical artist works with the entire team throughout the game’s development. He/she will be responsible for the entirety of the game. bridge the gap between art, animation, and engineering in a Unity-based casino gaming environment. This role is ideal for someone who understands visual quality, motion design, and real-time implementation, and can help create reusable assets, effects, tools, and workflows for slot-style games.

The Technical Artist will work closely with Game design, artists, motion designers, and engineers to build visually polished, performant, and reusable game components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Create and implement real-time visual effects in Unity
  • Build and maintain reusable prefabs, particle systems, shaders, and animation setups
  • Set up Unity Animator systems using animation states, transitions, and runtime triggers
  • Support casino slot-style features such as reels, symbol effects, bonus animations, anticipation effects, transitions, and UI motion
  • Develop materials and shaders for effects such as glows, motion blur, light sweeps, and other stylized visuals
  • Create or support Unity tools and workflows that improve production efficiency
  • Work with engineers to integrate art assets and visual systems into game projects
  • Optimize assets and effects while balancing visual quality, performance, and production time
  • Support pipelines from Maya/Blender/Substance into Unity
  • Help maintain consistent folder structures, prefab workflows, and package/export

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College diploma (DEC) or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant experience in lieu;
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical artist within the casino slot game or consol gaming industry; 
  • Strong Unity experience, including:
  • Animator State Machines
  • Particle systems
  • Materials and shaders
  • Prefabs and reusable components
  • Basic C# scripting
  • Strong visual design sense, especially for casino slot-style games

Experience with Adobe tools:

  • Photoshop
  • After Effects

Experience with 3D tools:

  • Maya and/or Blender
  • Substance Painter/Designer
  • Understanding of animation timing, motion, composition, and visual polish
  • Ability to troubleshoot art/technical issues across Unity and DCC tools
  • Comfortable collaborating with artists, motion designers, and engineers

Strong documentation skills;

  • Show creativity and passion for game design and playability;
  • Ability to communicate in English highly desired;
  • Demonstrated ability to make key decisions;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Able to work as part of a team or independently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;      
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus;      
  • Ability to travel within North America.
