About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Architect to provide technical leadership across multiple initiatives within Pearson’s Higher Education Division. This role is ideal for a seasoned architect who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving large-scale technical challenges, and can influence architectural direction across teams and programs.

As a Senior Technical Architect, you will partner closely with engineering, product, platform, and infrastructure teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient solutions that support Pearson’s strategic objectives. You will play a key role in defining architectural standards, guiding technical decisions, and ensuring consistency across a diverse portfolio of products and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and solution design efforts across multiple products, platforms, and initiatives

• Collaborate with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to define technical strategies and long-term architectural roadmaps

• Drive architectural alignment across programs while balancing business priorities, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence

• Review and provide guidance on technical designs, architecture proposals, and implementation approaches

• Champion best practices in software architecture, cloud-native development, APIs, event-driven systems, and distributed architectures

• Identify and address technical risks, dependencies, and architectural gaps early in the delivery lifecycle

• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to architects, engineers, and technical leads

• Support teams in solving complex technical challenges and making informed design decisions

• Contribute to architectural governance, standards, and technology evaluation processes

• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, cloud platforms, and modern software development practices
  

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field

• Proven experience as a Senior Technical Architect, Solution Architect, or Principal Engineer in a SaaS or large-scale cloud environment

• Deep understanding of modern software architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and distributed systems

• Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS

• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver scalable, secure, and highly available systems

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical and business leaders

• Experience translating business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions

• Ability to work across multiple teams and initiatives in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

• Experience in EdTech or large enterprise environments

• Familiarity with data privacy, security architecture, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, SOC2, etc.)

• Experience with platform modernization, cloud migrations, and digital transformation initiatives

• Knowledge of architectural governance frameworks and enterprise architecture practices

• Experience supporting AI-enabled products, data platforms, or large-scale digital ecosystems
