Job Description

Job Description Summary

The power grid is changing — and the engineers who understand it best are the ones who will shape what comes next. As a Lead Engineer in Substation Protection and Control within GE Vernova's Grid Automation business, you will be at the intersection of deep technical expertise and real customer impact. You will bring GE Vernova's substation automation, protection, and control solutions to life — working directly with customers to solve complex challenges, close technical gaps, and grow the business in a region where grid modernisation is accelerating fast.

If you are energised by problems that don't have obvious answers and motivated by seeing your engineering knowledge translate directly into customer outcomes, this role was built for you.

Job Description

What You'll Do

  • Lead customer-facing technical engagement — present GE Vernova's Grid Automation offerings, gather feedback on product gaps, and influence solution development to exceed market expectations.
  • Execute and support engineering design — apply sound engineering principles to the design, analysis, and evaluation of substation protection and control (PAC) systems, ensuring compliance with business standards and program requirements.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration — act as the technical bridge between Central Product Lines, Regional Sales, Tendering, and Application teams, as well as Channel Partners and customers.
  • Develop and communicate technical solutions — recommend approaches to meet technical and program requirements, prepare action plans to resolve issues, and support approval of new solutions that grow market share.
  • Contribute to technical reviews — present at and participate in internal and external program reviews, ensuring proper documentation of all technical outputs.
  • Build and sustain customer relationships — cultivate trust through technical credibility, consistent communication, and a focus on long-term partnership rather than transactional engagement.

Who You Are

You are a technically accomplished engineer who thrives at the boundary between engineering rigour and customer relationships — someone who can hold a complex technical conversation and still make it feel human.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field — or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Significant experience in a relevant engineering role, with a strong track record in substation automation, protection systems, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Hands-on expertise across the full project lifecycle: design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of High Voltage (HV) or Medium Voltage (MV) Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and Protection systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850, Substation Digital Control Systems, protection fundamentals, and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Cantonese.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the CEAP (China, East Asia & Pacific) market landscape and customer ecosystem.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of working time, primarily within the CEAP region with occasional global travel.
  • Experience engaging with Channel Partners and navigating complex multi-stakeholder customer environments.
