The role
As a Technical Application Engineer at Damen Naval, you are responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing pivotal technical applications that support our maritime and defense‑related projects. You ensure application availability, security, and operational stability, while managing the full technical lifecycle—from configuration and upgrades to integrations and troubleshooting.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with IT teams, functional owners, and external vendors to ensure our application landscape remains stable, secure, and aligned with operational and strategic needs.
Key accountabilities
In the role of Technical Application Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Designing and maintaining secure, scalable technical application solutions.
Performing technical application management (configuration, maintenance, upgrades, patching) while ensuring application availability.
Monitoring application performance, resolving incidents, and conducting root cause analysis.
Implementing and maintaining application‑level security controls.
Managing integrations between applications, infrastructure, identity services, and external systems.
Providing support for application related changes and incidents.
Actively contributing to continuous improvement of application platform while ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and keep track of required technical documentation
Actively sharing knowledge which contributes to expertise development within the department.
Skills & Experience
As a Technical Application Engineer you recognize yourself in the following profile:
MBO-4 or Bachelor’s degree (3-5 years experience) within Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
Solid understanding of enterprise application architectures (client‑server, multi‑tier, web, SaaS).
Relevant certifications include Microsoft, Citrix, 3DX, Primavera, where ITIL Foundation is considered as a plus
Hands‑on experience with installation, configuration, and technical operation of applications.
Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, middleware and connectivity layers.
Familiarity with security principles such as hardening and access control.
Preferably experience in the maritime, defense, or engineering sector.
Excellent command of the English language, with proficiency in Dutch being advantageous.
Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
