Job Description

Reporting to the Technical Project Director – Design, you will act as a key bridge between the animation, design and programming teams, contributing to the development, integration and optimization of gameplay animation systems for our ambitious projects, working to define and improve animation pipelines, integrate and validate animations in the engine, develop and maintain tools that improve production workflows and ensure high visual quality while respecting real-time performance objectives and technical constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with animators, programmers, and designers to define and improve animation pipelines.
  • Integrate and test animation assets into the engine, ensuring they work well with gameplay, physics, and cutscenes.
  • Create and maintain tools and scripts to optimize animator workflows.
  • Debug and resolve issues related to animations, whether in creation software (Maya, MotionBuilder, etc.) or directly in the engine.
  • Collaborate with gameplay designers and programmers on state machines, blend trees, IK systems, facial animation and motion capture pipelines.
  • Ensure a high level of visual quality while considering real-time and memory performance constraints.
  • Document processes and train facilitators on tools and best practices.

Experiences & Qualifications

  • More than 5 years' experience as a Technical Animator or similar role in a AAA studio;
  • Mastery of animation software (Maya, MotionBuilder, Blender, etc.);
  • Good knowledge of animation systems in modern engines (Unreal Engine, Unity or proprietary engines);
  • Good understanding of animation principles and gameplay systems;
  • Analytical mind and sense of problem solving, capable of making the link between creativity and technical constraints;
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills;
  • Knowledge of MEL, Python, C++ or C#, an asset.
