Job Description

Title: Technical Analyst, Automation & Reporting

Location: Barcelona, Spain

Reports to: Director, Automation & Reporting

The Role

Dow Jones is seeking a Technical Analyst to join our global Automation & Reporting team, utilizing SQL, Python, and JavaScript to build automation solutions, robust reporting capabilities and manage high volumes of data across Dow Jones products. In this role, you will partner closely with multiple business teams to analyze the databases they own and design innovative technical solutions that automate their core business processes.

As a key technical partner, you will manage a portfolio of deliverables in parallel, bridging the gap between complex business problems and functional technical solutions. You will be responsible for eliciting requirements from stakeholders, translating them into optimized business-centric processes, and effectively communicating progress and blockers to ensure continuous operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Design & Development: Design, develop, and maintain optimized solutions to meet reporting and process improvement needs. Write clean, readable code, build highly optimized SQL queries, and develop robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) jobs, tools, and visualization dashboards.
  • Stakeholder & Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of solutions while working closely with multiple stakeholders. Identify high-impact business problems, elicit solution requirements, and effectively communicate progress and blockers to both project teams and executive sponsors.
  • Process Improvement & Ad-Hoc Support: Design and own business-centric reporting processes that actively improve the organization's operational efficiency. Remain flexible and responsive to ad hoc and urgent reporting requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Best Practices & Quality Assurance: Adopt and continuously contribute to the improvement of existing technical best practices. Ensure high standards across solution design, development, validation, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Essential Experience: Undergraduate degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics) or equivalent training. Self-starter capable of working independently, coordinating with multiple partners, and driving complex projects from conception to finish.
  • Technical Proficiency: 3+ years of experience utilizing SQL and Python for data analysis and data processing. Detail-oriented with a strict focus on assuring quality, consistency, and accuracy in data and processes. Proven experience working with version control systems like Git.
  • Delivery & Communication: Agile mindset with a track record of successful delivery through agile practices. Exceptional communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Open to different viewpoints with a strong appreciation for team diversity.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience in ETL development, data visualization, and building dashboards. Familiarity with managing large datasets in a fluid environment and solving complex, non-routine problems. Experience with cloud services such as AWS (including Glue, Athena, S3) or GCP, Google APIs, and other programming languages like JavaScript. Knowledge of AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code), Data Science, and predictive modeling is highly desired.
