Job Description

About the Role

As a Technical Advisor within the Centre of Excellence (COE 5), you will provide advanced technical support for NOV Pressure Control Equipment and act as an escalation point for complex issues requiring deeper technical analysis, continuity, and coordination.

Working from our Forfar location, you will support internal stakeholders and external customers across NOV’s global installed base. The environment can be fast-paced and high-stakes, particularly when technical issues affect or potentially affect customer operations. Success therefore requires strong technical judgement, structured problem-solving, clear communication, and the ability to remain effective under pressure.

This is a collaborative role with individual ownership of escalated technical cases. You will work closely with subject matter experts, Technical Advisors, Technical Leaders, Product Engineering, service teams, and other specialists to progress issues through to resolution. Occasional international travel may be required.

About NOV

NOV is a global provider of technology, equipment, and services supporting energy production and industrial operations. Through its engineering, manufacturing, service, and digital capabilities, NOV helps customers improve operational performance, safety, reliability, and efficiency across drilling, completion, production, marine, industrial, and energy transition activities worldwide.

Within this environment, the Pressure Control Equipment team supports technically complex equipment with a global operational footprint, connecting field experience, technical support, service operations, and engineering expertise.

Your Impact

You will contribute to the team’s ability to provide reliable technical escalation support for Pressure Control Equipment, helping resolve complex field challenges while maintaining effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders.

Beyond individual technical cases, you will contribute to product reliability and performance improvement by identifying trends, providing structured technical feedback, supporting root cause analysis, and connecting field experience with Product Engineering and other technical functions.

Development & Team Environment

You will join a collaborative technical environment where knowledge sharing and day-to-day interaction are an important part of how the team operates. Onboarding will combine practical, on-the-job learning with established work instructions, internal tools, and product-specific training where appropriate.

The role provides opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge, gain exposure across NOV’s global operations, and develop through experience with complex equipment and customer challenges. Career development is not limited to a single linear path, with experience in the COE providing exposure that can support future technical and broader opportunities across NOV.

Diversity & Inclusion

At NOV, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We value diversity in all its forms and believe that different perspectives drive innovation and success. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex Pressure Control Equipment issues, providing advanced analysis and recommendations to internal teams and customers.
  • Provide advanced technical product support to global subject matter experts supporting NOV’s internal and external customer base.
  • Investigate complex equipment issues using structured fault-finding and root cause analysis techniques, including methods such as 5 Whys and Fishbone analysis.
  • Analyze product performance and reliability trends and provide structured technical feedback to Product Engineering regarding design, maintenance, and operational performance.
  • Prepare technical reports, damage assessments, corrective action recommendations, work scopes, and other documentation supporting issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with Product Engineering, Global Product Engineering, service teams, technical specialists, and other NOV business groups to resolve multidisciplinary technical challenges.
  • Support customer and internal stakeholder meetings by evaluating technical issues, communicating recommendations, documenting agreed actions, and following issues through to resolution.
  • Contribute to technical knowledge and competency development by supporting training materials, competency activities, and knowledge sharing across the technical support organization.
  • Review technical and product information and contribute to the evaluation of new products, tools, services, product notifications, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Perform work in accordance with NOV quality, HSE, and applicable operational procedures and support continuous improvement across the COE technical support network.

Essential Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical technical experience.
  • Proven experience with NOV BOP Pressure Control Systems, including subsea and/or surface BOP equipment and associated control systems.
  • Proven relevant technical experience gained in areas such as Field Service, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), Technical Support, Field Engineering, eHawk, Aftermarket Projects, or a comparable technical environment.
  • Strong capability in technical analysis, troubleshooting, fault finding, and structured problem-solving across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Ability to confidently interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic drawings.
  • Experience preparing clear technical reports, assessments, recommendations, or other technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and multinational teams across different regions and time zones.
  • Ability to remain composed and make sound technical judgements when supporting complex, time-sensitive, or high-impact operational issues.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake occasional international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge or experience of NOV BOP equipment such as NXT, SLX, LXT and 6012.
  • Exposure to 4th, 5th or 6th Generation MUX and RCX control systems.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical escalations within a global service, aftermarket, engineering, or operational environment.
  • Experience working with Product Engineering or other engineering functions on equipment reliability, product performance, technical investigations, or design-related issues.
