Job Description

Join our team as a Tech Lead!

Yes, you can! That's our attitude towards our work, ambitions, ideas, and relationships. We at Luminor believe that anyone has the potential to achieve big things and encourage everyone to achieve them, professionally and personally.

Whoever you are and whatever your role is, with Luminor, you will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a local banking champion.

Build critical banking systems. Lead the engineering. Stay close to the code.

We are looking for a Tech Lead to join our Payments and Cash Management Engineering area.

This role is for someone who likes complex backend systems, architecture, integrations, event-driven design and real engineering ownership. You will help modernize business-critical Cash Management capabilities used by corporate customers across the Baltics. We need a strong Engineer who can lead design, challenge solutions, support developers, work with stakeholders and vendors, and still go deep into code and implementation details when needed.

What You Will Build and Work With:

This role is for someone who can design the system, lead the team technically, challenge vendors and stakeholders, and still stay hands-on when needed

  • Design and build Java/Spring Boot back-end services for complex banking flows.

  • Create REST API and event-driven integrations between internal banking platforms, data platforms and external systems.

  • Work with Kafka for asynchronous events, data feeds and system-to-system communication.

  • Design reliable flows around account lifecycle, payment initiation, routing, validation, balances, statements and customer-facing banking processes.

  • Work with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring and production-readiness topics.

  • Use relational databases and make sure data consistency, auditability and recovery are properly designed.

  • Support modernization of legacy capabilities into a more maintainable, cloud-ready engineering setup.

  • Make technical decisions where correctness, security, resilience and operational stability matter.

Our Tech Stack:

Back-end: Java 21+, Spring Boot 3+
Front-end: React, TypeScript, Micro‑frontend architecture
Integration & Messaging: Apache Kafka
Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm, GitLab CI/CD
Databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Lead technical design and implementation.

  • Own architecture decisions together with architects and engineering teams.

  • Guide developers through code reviews, design reviews and day-to-day engineering decisions.

  • Drive good engineering practices: clean code, testability, monitoring, security and maintainability.

  • Work directly with product owners, architects, developers, platform teams, business stakeholders and vendors.

  • Help the team make practical trade-offs between business needs, delivery pressure, risk and long-term quality.

  • Use AI tools pragmatically to improve engineering speed and quality.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • Strong hands-on back-end engineering experience.

  • Java and Spring Boot as a solid base.

  • Real experience with architecture, system design and complex integrations.

  • Kafka or similar event streaming experience.

  • AWS or cloud-native delivery experience.

  • Good database knowledge.

  • Practical experience with APIs, microservices and distributed systems.

  • Hands-on mindset: code reviews, troubleshooting, technical spikes and implementation support.

  • Ability to lead developers technically, not only manage tasks.

  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ownership mindset you do not just “deliver tickets”, you care if the solution actually works.

  • Banking, payments, finance or another regulated-domain experience is a strong advantage.

  • Experience with data platforms, data products or analytical integrations is a plus.

  • Practical AI experience in software engineering is a plus.

  • Fluent English in spoken and written communication due to working on the Pan-Baltic level

Why You Will Love Working Here:

  • Flexibility. Flexible working hours, Hybrid work, and the possibility to work from anywhere in the EU, Iceland, Switzerland, and the UK (in total 90 days per year)

  • International teams. Teams that go outside Pan-Baltic borders, where people value challenging work together with good humor and having fun

  • Culture. You’ll be joining a team where things move fast, ideas flow freely, and change is part of the everyday. It’s a dynamic environment that keeps you learning, growing, and never bored

  • More vacation. Additional weeks of vacation are available to all employees who have been in the company for 1 year or more

  • Volunteer time off. We care about giving back to society, therefore, you will get additional days off for volunteering purposes

  • Paid leave. We are proud of our employees who are participating in military training. Therefore, Luminor offers 30 fully paid calendar days for military training every year

  • Health benefits. A competitive benefits package in addition to your salary that includes health insurance after the first 3 months pass in all three Baltic states, as well as Health days in case of your absence due to sickness without a doctor's note needed

  • Wellbeing. Access to tools and resources that help you feel good and be productive at work and in life

  • Professional growth. Internal and external training programs, LinkedIn learning, workshops, conferences, online training, etc

  • Special Offer for Luminor products & services. Enjoy special offers & pricing for products and services provided by Luminor

  • Gross salary. 6000–8500 EUR/month, which is to be determined depending on your level of experience and competencies

The application deadline is the 18th of September. We are looking for a candidate primarily already located within the Baltics. Please apply with your CV in English and PDF format!
