Scala Dev Engineer
We are looking for a strong development expert with a passion for functional programming, who can help us set new standards with functional programming and reactive architectures using Scala and Cats using Agile methodologies. You will play a key role in shaping the future of personalized digital experiences for ING customers across the globe.

The team
You will join a modern, agile engineering team responsible for delivering personalization capabilities that serve millions of ING customers worldwide. The team designs, builds, and operates scalable platforms that power real-time customer experiences, leveraging cloud-native technologies and data-driven solutions. Our engineers take end-to-end ownership of their solutions, from design and development to deployment and production support. Collaboration, autonomy, continuous learning, and technical excellence are at the heart of how we work. Roles and responsibilities
As a Scala Dev Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and operation of business-critical systems while helping drive engineering excellence across the team.

• Develop and maintain high-quality Scala applications following engineering standards and best practices.
• Design and build scalable, resilient, and low-latency distributed systems that support real-time customer experiences.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and product stakeholders to analyse requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
• Drive end-to-end ownership of software solutions from local development through deployment and production support.
• Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices to ensure reliable and continuous delivery of software.
• Maintain technical documentation and contribute to architectural and technical design discussions.
• Support and improve existing applications while proactively identifying opportunities for optimization and innovation.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Build and deliver robust software solutions using Scala and functional programming principles.
• Design and operate high-throughput, scalable, and resilient distributed systems.
• Apply modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps ways of working.
• Leverage cloud and platform technologies such as Azure DevOps, AKS, Cosmos DB, Kafka, and related technologies.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, communicating clearly in English.
• Take ownership of technical challenges and continuously improve both systems and engineering practices.
