He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting Auckland to be the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for part-time Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Pool and Leisure Centre teams across Auckland to help achieve that goal!

Based at Albany Stadium Pool, this is a fantastic job where you can gain a formal qualification teaching people the basic principles of how to swim, maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors - we'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role. Experience in teaching infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children is strongly preferred.

We would love to hear from those who can work 8 hours per week and eager to learn. All training is provided, shifts below:

  • Sunday 8.15am - 1pm, Monday 3.15 - 7.30pm
  • Sunday 8.15am - 1pm,Thursday 3.15pm- 7.30pm or Friday 3.15pm - 7.30pm

You will need to attend a 2-week training at West wave during the school break in April 2026 Dates will be confirmed during the interview.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, and can communicate well with members of the public. Just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference.

If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that would be fantastic! However, we will provide full, comprehensive training. You must also be willing to complete First Aid training.

Pay rate: $28.95/h (Our employer KiwiSaver contribution is in addition to the base salary offered.)
