Team Manager Software Engineering
32 to 40 hours per week, Hengelo.

''The world trusts Thales—so can you.''

We’re driven by innovation, diversity, and high-tech ambition. With 81,000 talented people in 68 countries (nearly 3,000 in the Netherlands!), Thales is at the heart of smarter security, defence, aerospace, and cyber technology.
In the Netherlands—Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven, Hengelo—we partner with universities and top experts to deliver next-gen radar, combat systems, cybersecurity, transport solutions, and serious gaming.

Our teams engineer advanced software for navy vessels, integrating sensors, weapons, and smart data to support everything from pirate defense to missile interception.

For our German Navy customer, Thales is engineering and delivering the full solution for the combat systems, fire control systems and integrated sensor suites for a series of new frigates, called F126. F126 is one of the largest and most challenging programs Thales has, with more than 400 engineers working on the program across multiple countries.

For its F126 program in the Engineering department, Thales (Hengelo) is looking for a talented Team Manager Software Engineering with a passion for software development and the ambition to advance his or her career within a high-tech environment in a management role.

Are you ready to take software engineering to the next level?
At Thales, we’re shaping the future with cutting-edge solutions at the forefront of high-tech innovation. For our F126 program, we’re looking for an inspiring Manager Software Engineering – someone with vision, a passion for software, and a drive to combine technology and people for lasting impact.

What will you do?
As Team Manager Software Engineering, you’ll lead a dynamic team of 25-35 software engineers and specialists, developing software for real-time, safety-critical products where quality and innovation come first. You’ll work according to agile, scrum, and SAFe methodologies in an environment where teamwork and ownership are central.

Your team is a key link in the F126 program. You’ll enable everyone to perform at their best: coaching, inspiring, facilitating, and building the team. Together, you’ll not only develop software, but also competencies, domain knowledge, and optimal working methods. You spot opportunities for improvement, initiate change, and make a difference – for people and the project.

What do we offer?

  • A good salary based on vakgroep 70, CLA Metalektro-HP, fitting travel allowance and the ability to personalize your employment conditions: for instance, you can trade PTO for internet costs, our bicycle plan, company fitness and relocation costs;
  • 40 days off per year (PTO).
  • You can usually work where and whenever you want. Within Thales, we aim for a 60/40 balance, where you work from home at least two days a week, when your role allows this;
  • An innovative, high-tech environment where your ideas truly make an impact.
  • A management culture based on trust, transparency, and the pursuit of excellence.
  • Plenty of room for personal growth, coaching, and development.
  • A key role in setting the strategic direction of your department.
  • Challenging, international projects.

Why you?
You are a manager who puts people first, strives for results, and knows how to elevate teams to a higher level. You combine analytical and creative skills with convincing power and pragmatism. You interact effortlessly with various stakeholders, choose the right tools, methodologies and processes, and bring out the best in your team.

What do you bring?

  • At least a BSc/MSc in a technical field.
  • Management experience in a high-tech environment.
  • Self-reflection, attentiveness, and persuasive abilities.
  • Passion for people and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Ready to engineer the future?
At Thales, you get the freedom to lead, learn, and grow – together with a talented team in a world of technological innovation. Help build the success of the F126 project! Apply now or find out more at thalesgroup.com/careers.
