Job Description

Team Manager | World of Books | Coventry (On-site)
We’re the world’s largest seller of pre-loved books — a certified B Corp on a mission to become the Planet’s Bookstore. Since 2002 we’ve rehomed over 100 million books, and our Coventry warehouse is at the heart of how we do it. Every day our team processes thousands of books, getting them back into the hands of readers across the UK and beyond.
We’re looking for a Team Manager to lead one of our warehouse operations teams and help us keep doing what we do — brilliantly.
The role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll have day-to-day accountability for either our Inbound or Outbound operation — leading a team of 6 Team Leaders, delivering against KPIs, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. This is a permanent, on-site role working a 4 on / 4 off rolling shift pattern, 8am–8pm.
This is a modern site with a mix of automation and manual processes, handling high volumes of inbound and outbound activity. You’ll be the kind of leader who’s equally comfortable on the floor with your team and in a room with the wider leadership group — someone who sets the standard and brings others with them.
This isn’t a role for someone who manages from a distance. It’s for someone who leads from the front.
What you’ll be doing
• Leading the day-to-day running of Inbound or Outbound operations — delivering KPIs, maintaining 90%+ OTD, and keeping H&S compliance front and centre
• Directly managing 6 Team Leaders — coaching, aligning and holding them accountable
• Planning shift resources and working with our recruitment agencies to maintain the right headcount
• Partnering with the training team to ensure new starters receive an excellent onboarding experience
• Investigating people policy and H&S incidents and producing written reports
• Chairing formal meetings including disciplinary hearings where required
• Working closely with the People Team on timesheet approvals, absence management and recruitment workflows
• Championing engagement — listening to your team, resolving queries and supporting site-wide events
What we’re looking for
• Minimum 2 years’ leadership experience in a fast-paced warehouse or distribution environment
• Confident resource planner with experience managing a large, diverse team
• Track record of delivering against KPIs and operational targets
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety procedures
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• WMS experience and Lean Six Sigma / IOSH / NEBOSH qualifications are a bonus — not a dealbreaker
Why World of Books?
• A mission that genuinely matters — B Corp certified, with sustainability at the core of every decision
• A business where your leadership has real, visible impact on a team and an operation that matters
• A culture that invests in its people — we want our Team Leaders to grow into Team Managers, and our Team Managers to grow further still
• Coventry-based, permanent, with a shift pattern that gives you proper time off
• A team that cares about doing things right — for customers, for colleagues, for the planet

If you’re a warehouse leader who wants to do meaningful work in a business that moves fast and stands for something — we’d love to hear from you.
