
A nationally recognized building-systems engineering consultancy is seeking a Team Lead/Senior Project Manager | Mechanical to join its Washington, D.C. team. This is an opportunity to lead sophisticated, high-performance MEP projects across healthcare, laboratories, higher education, government, commercial, multifamily, K-12, civic, hospitality, and other complex building types.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished mechanical engineer and project leader who enjoys guiding teams, collaborating with clients and design partners, and delivering technically excellent solutions from early planning through construction. Relocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
The Team Lead/Senior Project Manager | Mechanical will serve as a technical and people leader across multiple MEP projects. This individual will oversee project planning, mechanical design, interdisciplinary coordination, quality, schedules, budgets, and client relationships while mentoring developing professionals and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering projects from concept and feasibility through design, construction administration, and closeout.
Collaborate with architects, owners, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to define project goals, scope, budget, and schedule.
Direct the design and coordination of innovative, efficient mechanical systems for complex buildings.
Provide technical oversight for calculations, specifications, drawings, studies, and other project documentation.
Monitor project progress, anticipate risks, resolve challenges, and keep clients and project teams informed.
Conduct site observations and inspections to evaluate compliance with design intent, applicable requirements, and quality standards.
Champion quality-assurance processes, coordinate reviews, and document project decisions, progress, and lessons learned.
Lead and mentor multidisciplinary team members while fostering collaboration, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
Serve as a trusted subject-matter expert in client meetings, presentations, and internal technical discussions.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Active Professional Engineer license.
At least 10 years of experience in MEP mechanical design and consulting.
Demonstrated project management and team leadership experience within the A/E or MEP industry.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical building systems, applicable codes, industry standards, and design practices.
Strong judgment, problem-solving, communication, organization, and client-service skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to technical quality and project details.
Desired Experience & Skills
LEED accreditation or other relevant sustainability credentials.
Experience using Autodesk Revit.
Experience leading projects in healthcare, laboratory, education, government, commercial, or other technically demanding markets.
A collaborative leadership style and genuine interest in developing the next generation of engineering professionals.
Benefits
Salary Range: $115,000–$160,000 annually, plus eligibility for a conditional bonus.
