Team Leader – Youth Services | Whakatū Nelson

Full-time | $82,000 per annum

Are you a supportive, grounded leader who enjoys bringing out the best in people?

We’re looking for a Team Leader to join our Youth Services team in Whakatū Nelson. This is a hands-on leadership role where relationships really matter – with the young people we support, their whānau, your team and the wider community.

You’ll work alongside Youth Support Workers to provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and encouragement, helping to create a positive team culture and ensuring the young people we support receive consistent, safe and meaningful support.

This is a full-time position with an expectation to participate in an on-call roster, providing leadership and support when needed outside usual working hours.

No two days will look quite the same. You’ll be someone who can remain calm when things are challenging, communicate openly and make sound decisions while never losing sight of the young person at the centre of the service.

We’re looking for someone who leads with warmth, confidence and integrity. You’ll be approachable, resilient and able to build genuine relationships, while also being comfortable having the conversations that come with leading a team.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• An understanding of trauma-informed approaches.
• A basic understanding of payroll processes.
• The ability to lead and support a team of support workers.
• The ability to develop and maintain safe, effective 24/7 staffing rosters for each service you lead.
• Experience working with young people, disability, mental health or within the wider social services sector
• Leadership or senior support experience
• A good understanding of Enabling Good Lives principles and person-centred practice
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills
• Resilience and the ability to remain calm, reflective and solution-focused when situations are challenging
• Good organisational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities
• A commitment to culturally responsive practice and working in partnership with young people and whānau
• A genuine desire to support staff to grow, develop and do their best work

Ngā Whakaritenga | Essential Requirements

• Hold a full, current New Zealand driver licence
• Have the legal right to work in New Zealand and hold an appropriate visa where required
• Successfully complete our Police and Oranga Tamariki vetting requirements
