Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader to join our Telco Operations team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend approximately 50% of your time leading, coaching, and supporting a team of Field Technicians, while the remaining 50% is dedicated to field-based technical work delivering customer and operational outcomes.

You'll play a key role in driving team performance, ensuring quality service delivery, meeting customer commitments, and championing Downer's Zero Harm culture. You will lead by example, taking ownership of complex and customer-critical work while building a highly engaged, capable, and productive team.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience leading or supervising technical field teams within telecommunications, utilities, infrastructure, or a similar service-based environment.
  • Strong technical capability in field operations, installations, maintenance, fault response, and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to coach, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and people leadership skills.
  • A customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering excellent outcomes.
  • Sound commercial awareness and the ability to balance operational performance with customer expectations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards.


Ideally, you will also have:

  • NZQA Level 4 qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Supervisory or Leadership qualification/certificate.
  • Formal Health and Safety training.
  • Strong computer literacy and experience using work management systems.
