In addition to meeting the basic standards of a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, the Team Leader is expected to role model and exceed the Standards of Performance. Working with the Manager, the Team Leader assumes accountability for the quality of care delivered in the designated area. The Team Leader provides direct patient care and oversees the care provided by other sonography and assigned staff. The Team Leader coordinates orientation for new staff, oversees timekeeping, participates in performance evaluations, supports ongoing education, and completes other assigned duties. The Team Leader also assists the Manager in planning and managing the resources needed to deliver high quality patient care in the assigned area.

Job Duties

  • Performs general, obstetric, vascular, and specialty ultrasound examinations within the sonographer scope of practice and in collaboration with the interpreting Radiologist.
  • Schedules patients as necessary.
  • Responsible for student supervision and participates in the USI Advisory Faculty Meetings.
  • Responds to emergency callback when required.
  • Provides input and direction for new equipment purchases.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the P&P manual. Helps create P&P’s when necessary.
  • Participates in interviewing and hiring of new employees.
  • Participates on hospital committees and attends meetings as required.
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Coordinates equipment repair and maintenance to reduce downtime and overtime for repair.
  • Attends team leader meetings and other leadership activities as requested.
  • Performs EMR and PACS functions as necessary.
  • Maintains ACR accreditation for modality
  • Supervision includes other sonography staff, students and assigned staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, License/Certification and Experience Requirments

  • The individual must be a graduate of a recognized Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or meet clinical experience, didactic course work and alternative eligibility as specified in the ARDMS application for certification instructions. Required
  • Minimum of five years' relevant experience of experience as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Preferred
  • The individual must be certified by the ARDMS as a Sonographer and maintain annual renewal/registration with the certifying organization. Required
  • Revocation or inability to maintain licensure and/or registration may result in termination of the individual. Required
  • Individual must maintain current BLS CPR certification for healthcare providers. Required
  • Renewal of licensure must occur 2 weeks prior to expiration date Required
