Who are we looking for?

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Team Leader – Software Development to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead software engineering capability across a growing portfolio of enterprise software solutions within GHD’s Information Services environment. As the team continues to evolve, you’ll play a key leadership role in supporting scalable, secure and enterprise-grade software development practices across client-facing and business-critical products. This hands-on leadership role will see you combine delivery discipline, technical judgement and people leadership to support stable, high-quality solutions that meet changing business needs and create long-term value.

Working with a collaborative and capable team, you will:

• Lead software development activities and provide practical technical input into design, integration and delivery decisions, aligned to product priorities, architecture direction and enterprise technology standards

• Partner with product owners, business stakeholders and technology teams to translate requirements into practical, scalable and secure technical outcomes

• Provide technical input into roadmap planning, sequencing and prioritisation, helping the Product Owner balance delivery commitments, technical dependencies, maintainability and product viability

• Apply strong delivery discipline across requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance to support predictable and high-quality outcomes

• Monitor, diagnose and resolve complex software and integration issues to support stable, secure and efficient system performance

Team Leadership:

• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and guidance to foster a collaborative, capable and inclusive software engineering team culture

• Set clear goals and expectations, provide regular feedback and support the ongoing development and performance of team members

• Facilitate open communication, knowledge sharing and cross-skilling across the team, product owners and related technology groups

• Contribute to the development of team ways of working as the software solutions portfolio and supporting structure continues to mature

• Support recruitment, onboarding, wellbeing and capability development activities for team members as required

What you will bring to the team:

• Demonstrated experience leading software development or software engineering teams in complex enterprise or product-oriented environments

• Strong technical judgement and experience supporting enterprise-grade engineering quality, including secure, scalable and maintainable software practices

• Well-developed knowledge of .NET and C#, Azure cloud environments, Azure DevOps, API design and integration patterns, and contemporary DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing and secure release management. Familiarity with Kubernetes or containerised deployment environments would be highly regarded

• Ability to work effectively with Product Owners, business stakeholders, architects and technical teams, translating agreed product priorities and roadmap direction into clear engineering plans, technical priorities and delivery outcomes

• A people-focused leadership style, with experience coaching, mentoring or leading technical team members and supporting continuous improvement

Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, enterprise systems or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience

• Substantial experience in software development, software engineering, integration delivery or enterprise applications, ideally gained across complex or product-oriented business environments

• Practical experience applying SDLC practices, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance

• Experience contributing to technical recommendations, roadmap planning, prioritisation or delivery planning across multiple software products or business priorities

• Commercial awareness and the ability to understand how software solutions support client, operational and broader business outcomes would be highly regarded

• Microsoft developer certification or relevant cloud certification would be highly regarded
