About the Role
SMEC is preparing for a major irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation program in Georgia and is seeking an experienced Team Leader / Senior Irrigation Engineer to lead the design and technical delivery of the project.

This role will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for planning, design coordination, and technical oversight of large irrigation systems financed by international development institutions.

Engagement
This opportunity forms part of an Expression of Interest (EOI) submission for a major irrigation infrastructure project currently in the bidding stage. Engagement will be subject to project award and client approval.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall technical delivery of irrigation design and rehabilitation activities
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and specialist consultants
• Review and guide detailed engineering designs for irrigation and drainage systems
• Ensure compliance with international standards and donor requirements
• Manage communication with clients, stakeholders, and project partners
• Oversee project planning, implementation schedules, and reporting
• Ensure project delivery aligns with FIDIC contract requirements and project objectives
• Provide technical leadership during design review and project implementation stages

Key Requirements

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, irrigation, or drainage
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in irrigation engineering
• At least 10 years of experience in the design of irrigation or hydraulic infrastructure projects
• Minimum 5 years of international project experience
• Experience as Team Leader or Project Manager on IFI or donor-funded projects (EIB, EU, WB, KFW, EBRD, ADB, AFD or similar)
• Experience delivering projects under FIDIC contract conditions
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability
• Fluent English communication
