A bit about the role

We’re looking for a Team Leader to join our team in Cumnock,

In your role as Team Leader, you'll lead, inspire and motivate the team to deliver meaningful support that changes children's lives. The Team Leader is a dual role that is split between offering direct support to the young people while undertaking administrative and organisational tasks. You'll have responsibility for rota management, lead on shifts, support staff in their personal development and assist the Registered Manager with the day to day running of the service. Through the direct support, you'll be part of an exceptional team who work together to develop and deliver person-centred care and support plans.

About the services

‘Meeting new people. Exploring new places. Trying new things.’ That’s at the heart of our Lisalanna Short Breaks service. Our short stays give disabled children and young people the chance to have fun, build independence, and develop new skills, while offering families valuable time to rest and recharge.

Lisalanna Short Breaks provides planned, high‑quality respite for children and young people aged 5 to 21. We offer safe, enjoyable, and meaningful stays where young people can socialise, experience new activities, and grow in confidence within a nurturing environment.

These breaks also give families the opportunity to pause, focus on their wellbeing, and feel reassured that their child is receiving excellent care. Our team works closely with families and professionals to tailor each stay to the young person’s needs, preferences, and goals.

With a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a strong commitment to person‑centred practice, our Short Breaks plays a vital role in supporting young people’s development and strengthening family resilience.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Providing direct line management to a team of residential staff to deliver high standards of care.
  • Supporting staff team development through training opportunities, staff supervision, and multidisciplinary working.
  • Leading shifts and working with the Registered Manager to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedure.
  • Working to achieve positive outcomes for individual children and young people and contributing to the achievement of an outstanding, good or equivalent rating in external inspection including deputising in the absence of the Registered Manager.

Let's talk about you

  • Eligible for SSSC registration, holding an HNC in Social Care and an SVQ in Children and Young People (or equivalent), alongside an SVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management, or a willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Proven experience in supervising, coaching, and supporting staff to develop their skills and achieve high standards of performance.
  • Extensive experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
  • Ability to respond effectively and safely to children and young people who present behaviours of concern.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding practices and a commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Why Action for Children?

Every child should have a loving home, food, warmth, the chance to grow and learn - the support to cope with life’s challenges. But too many children don’t. By bringing your passion and unique skills and experience, you’ll help us change that where it really matters.

We've been driven by love to take action for children for over 150 years, giving them the protection and practical help they need. A lot’s changed since 1869. But what children really need, hasn’t. So as long as children need us, we’ll be here.
