About our group | Mō te roopu
We regulate activity across the climate, land & ocean environments to enable New Zealand to sustainably utilise its natural resources, protect its environment and meet its international obligations.
We manage applications and decision-making processes and operate the register that allows carbon units to be traded. We ensure that obligations are met through our confident application of the legislative frameworks we operate under.
We do all of this effectively, efficiently, fairly and transparently, in order to be a trusted independent regulator.
About the role | Mō te tūnga
We are looking for a motivated Team Leaderto manage our busy Land andOceans Applications teamThe team is made up of application leads, advisors and application administrators who are responsible forsupporting Boards of Inquiry, Decisions Making Committees and Expert Panels toprocess applications under the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012, Resource Management Act 1991 and Fast-track Approvals Act 2024
You will work closely with the Manager, Land and Oceans Applications to establish and maintain top-quality processes for the EPA’s regulatory decision making. This work is important to manage the environmental effects of activities undertaken in the land and ocean environments, for the good of New Zealand.
In this role, you will also be responsible for ensuring that all key internal and external relationships are developed and maintained within a complex legislative and politically nuanced environment.

We are looking for someonewith a range of skills and experience – if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience preferably in an area related to planning, engineering, earth sciences, environmental, or resource management.
Experience in people management
Experience working with different stakeholders/users at all levels across government, the public and private sectors
The ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of complex regulatory issues
The ability to make decisions and manage uncertainty and risk
Have the ability to work, and deliver, under pressure, set priorities, and achieve results in tight deadlines
A NZ drivers’ licence and the ability to travel overnight for work occasionally.

Salary range|
$122,997 - $184,495 per annum (midpoint $153,746).
This is the full salary range. Appointments will likely be made at or below the midpoint of this range, depending on skills and experience. An appointment at the midpoint assumes 100% competency in the role, with the full band covering a range of 80% - 120%.
