Job Description

About Avant

Avant is Australia’s leading medical defence organisation and a member-owned organisation with a proud history dating back to 1893.

Today, we support more than 100,000 medical practitioners and students across Australia, providing a range of products and services across insurance, lending, health, legal and practice management. Everything we do is focused on supporting doctors throughout their professional and personal lives and contributing to a sustainable healthcare system.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Team Leader to lead the day-to-day performance and delivery of our inside sales team within Growth.

Leading a team of phone-based Sales Consultants, you’ll oversee new business, retention and application activity while ensuring the team delivers a consistent and high-quality member experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing coaching and development with performance management and operational delivery. You’ll set clear expectations, build capability across the team and step in to support more complex member or sales matters when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team’s day-to-day sales, retention and application activity.
  • Support delivery of acquisition and retention targets through effective planning and prioritisation.
  • Monitor sales and application performance, identifying and addressing issues early.
  • Coach and develop Sales Consultants through regular feedback, guidance and on-the-job support.
  • Set clear expectations around performance, behaviours and quality standards.
  • Support team member development and career progression.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and accountable team culture.
  • Oversee the end-to-end processing of new business applications and offers.
  • Ensure applications are completed accurately and on time, in line with underwriting, risk and compliance requirements.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks or quality issues across sales and application processes.
  • Work closely with Underwriting and Operations to support efficient processing and resolve issues.
  • Support retention activity and act as an escalation point for complex or at-risk member matters.
  • Embed quality, risk awareness and compliance into day-to-day team activity.
  • Monitor sales and service interactions to support strong quality and member outcomes.
  • Support the implementation of changes to policies, processes and regulatory requirements.

Key Capabilities

We’re looking for an experienced people leader who can balance coaching and team development with the day-to-day demands of a busy sales environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience within a sales, retention, portfolio or contact centre environment.
  • At least two years’ experience leading team performance in a sales or service setting.
  • Strong sales coaching, people leadership and performance management capability.
  • Experience processing applications, offers or similar transactional sales activity.
  • Exposure to insurance, financial services or another regulated environment would be advantageous.
  • A coaching and development mindset, with the ability to build capability across a team.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • A results-focused approach, balanced with attention to quality and member outcomes.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands.
  • Sound judgement and risk awareness.
  • A collaborative, practical and solutions-focused approach.
