Auckland Council’s Building Consents delivers local and regional services to ensure that Auckland’s buildings are both safe and sustainable.

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader Field Surveying within our Field Surveying team based at Auckland Central. In this role, you will provide crucial leadership, coaching, and technical support to a dedicated group of building surveyors and support staff. Your main objective will be to ensure the effective and coordinated delivery of building inspection services, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Leading and guiding the field surveying team to meet building consent objectives and deliverables.
  • Overseeing adherence to policies and procedures in the Quality Management System.
  • Managing team performance, including coaching, mentoring, and resolving performance issues.
  • Providing training and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Addressing escalated issues and communicating with management as needed.

This role requires experience in similar leadership roles, with a sound understanding of building design, construction principles, and relevant regulations. We are looking for a candidate who excels in communication, possesses strong people management skills, and has a passion for mentoring and developing others. You should be adept at fostering a collaborative team environment and driving continuous improvement.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • A National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or an equivalent qualification, or a relevant professional or tertiary qualification acceptable under Regulation 18 (IANZ).
  • 8-10 years of cumulative experience in building regulatory or related industries.
  • At least 3 years of senior-level experience in a regulatory environment, with familiarity with legislation such as the Building Act, RMA, LGA, and Auckland Council Bylaws.
  • Extensive knowledge of building design, construction principles, and engineering disciplines.
  • Strong customer service skills and a proven ability to manage and motivate a team.

The remuneration range for this role is $130,000 - $140,000 per annum (based on skills and experience)
