We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take ownership of a high-profile portfolio of community facilities across the Southern Precinct, including some of Council’s most significant civic assets such as Broadmeadows Town Hall.

About the Role

As the Team Leader Community Facilities (Southern), you will lead the strategic and operational management, activation and continuous improvement of a diverse portfolio of community facilities. You will ensure these spaces are safe, well-maintained, highly utilised and responsive to current and future community needs.

This role combines people leadership, place activation, stakeholder partnerships and operational oversight, with a strong focus on community impact and customer experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, support and develop staff, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture
  • Contribute to strategic planning and lead precinct projects aligned with community needs and Council priorities
  • Enhance customer experience through continuous improvement and effective issue resolution
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community, government and education stakeholders
  • Deliver inclusive programs, services and initiatives that drive participation and social inclusion
  • Collaborate across Council and externally to activate community facilities and maximise utilisation
  • Manage budgets, procurement processes, and supplier/service contracts to ensure value for money
  • Oversee the activation, operations and performance of community facilities across the Southern precinct, including major civic venues
  • Lead capital works planning and maintenance programs to ensure facilities are safe, compliant and fit-for-purpose

About You

You are an experienced and values-driven leader with a strong understanding of community facilities in a local government environment. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on operational capability and bring a passion for creating vibrant, inclusive community spaces.

You will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, activation and management of community facilities within a local government or similar setting
  • Strong leadership capability, with a proven ability to motivate, develop and align teams to a shared vision
  • Experience delivering programs and initiatives that promote community participation and social inclusion
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build partnerships and manage complex relationships
  • Sound understanding of working with culturally diverse communities, particularly within growth areas
  • Experience in project management, financial oversight and continuous improvement
  • Highly developed written and presentation skills, including report and business case preparation
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Recreation, Facility Management or similar field, or lesser formal qualifications with extensive experience and knowledge of the planning and management of community facilities and community capacity building principles and practices.
  • Current driver’s licence.
