Team Leader Commissioner Support

Industrial Relations Commission

  • Principal location – Parramatta and Sydney CBD - Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
  • Employment type – Ongoing – Full time (35 hours per week)
  • Salary – Clerk Grade 5/6, Base Salary ($99,938 – $110,271), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

The Team Leader Commissioner Support ensures the effective operation of the Commissioner Support Team while delivering high-level legal research, administrative and courtroom support to Commissioners. This is a valuable leadership opportunity to contribute directly to the administration of justice within the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales, while developing and mentoring a small team in a dynamic, professional court environment.

What you’ll do

As part of the team supporting the Commissioners of the Industrial Relations Commission, you will lead the Commissioner Support Team to deliver high-quality operational and administrative services.

You will lead and coordinate team workloads, manage operational support functions, and ensure efficient and professional service delivery to Commissioners.

You will also:

  • Coach, mentor and develop staff to achieve high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Plan and monitor workflow, including staff rostering, to ensure fair allocation and timely service delivery.
  • Provide administrative, clerical and courtroom support to Commissioners.
  • Manage procurement of stores and stationery, coordinate equipment and courtroom technology support.
  • Oversee processing of payments in line with financial delegations and policies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
  • Assist with recruitment and induction of Commissioner Support staff.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team committed to professionalism, integrity and service excellence.
  • Respond to enquiries from legal representatives, employer groups, unions, and the public
  • Coordinate and respond to enquiries and procedural correspondence.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members and support colleagues with complex enquiries.
  • Apply and interpret departmental policies and procedures, including EEO, WH&S, Code of Conduct, and cultural awareness initiatives.
  • Liaise with parties to awards and enterprise agreements, gathering and organising information to identify key issues.
  • Support the continuous improvement of administrative processes within the Commission
  • Provide proofreading and editing support to Commissioners.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience leading or supervising staff in a busy, complex environment, including coaching, workload management and fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet changing deadlines and ensure efficient service delivery in a fast-paced setting.
  • Understanding of the NSW Court system and experience providing, administrative or courtroom support services.
  • Excellent judgment and professionalism in managing sensitive and confidential information, with strong communication skills when engaging with judicial officers and stakeholders.
  • Completed or undertaking legal qualifications highly regarded.
  • Current court or registry experience highly regarded.
