About Us:

The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

This position supports the Council Services Coordinator in delivering core community service functions, including roads, waste management, parks and gardens, town maintenance, walkways, animal control and welfare, and environmental protection, ensuring high‑quality and timely outcomes for the community.

The key duties of this role include but are not limited to:

Operational Supervision & Team Management

• Provide operational supervision and support to the Civil Services Team, ensuring high‑quality delivery of all core activities.
• Supervise, schedule and coordinate staff to ensure programmed work is completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to the community.
• Assist the Council Services Coordinator with recruitment, payroll and administrative functions to support departmental productivity.
• Provide on‑the‑job training, guidance and performance monitoring to ensure staff are properly inducted, trained, meeting performance expectations, following safe work practices, and submitting accurate attendance records and timesheets.
• Address performance or disciplinary issues promptly and in accordance with Council policies.

Civil Works & Community Services

• Maintain processes for civil works services, including parks and gardens, waste management, cemetery operations, airstrip maintenance and minor road repairs.
• Travel to remote locations and surrounding areas as required to deliver civil works and community service functions.

Plant, Equipment & Asset Management

• Ensure all plant and equipment are securely stored, regularly cleaned, and maintained in accordance with operator manuals, including daily greasing, pre‑start checks and timely fault reporting.
• Ensure materials and supplies are available, maintained, refilled and stored safely.

Work Health & Safety

• Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all relevant WHS regulations.
• Coordinate toolbox meetings, safety inspections and, in consultation with the Health and Safety team and implement new or revised safety procedures.

Other Duties

• Carry out additional tasks aligned with skills and experience as directed by the Council Services Coordinator.

About You

To be successful in the role, you must have:

• Certificate III or IV in Civil Construction, or knowledge and experience in road maintenance, waste, animal control and welfare, and parks and gardens activities.
• Previous experience working in a remote environment and indigenous community.
• Proven experience with supervising a team.
• A current heavy rigid driver’s licence (desirable), or the ability to obtain heavy rigid
  driver’s licence if successful.
• Construction Induction (White Card).
• Current National Criminal History Check.
• Current Working with Children (OCHRE) Card.
• Current Northern Territory Driver’s License·
• Ability to travel regularly to remote communities by light aircraft or self-driving a 4WD, including overnight stays.
