Rotorua Lakes Council is looking for an experienced and passionate building professional to join our Building Services team as Team Leader Building Inspection. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys developing people, delivering excellent customer outcomes, and providing expert technical guidance in a complex regulatory environment.

As Team Leader Building Inspection, you will lead a team of Building Inspectors, Senior Building Inspectors and Compliance Officers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality building inspection and compliance services. You will play a key role in maintaining Building Consent Authority accreditation standards, managing risk, supporting regulatory compliance, and fostering a high-performing team culture.

Working closely with the Manager Building Services and wider Council teams, you will provide expert technical leadership across building inspection and compliance activities while helping drive continuous improvement, quality assurance and customer-focused service delivery.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence building outcomes across Rotorua, build strong relationships with industry stakeholders and contribute to the sustainable growth and development of our district.

To be successful in this role, you will bring significant experience in building inspection, building control or compliance within a council or private sector environment. You will have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, including the Building Act, along with proven leadership experience and the ability to coach, mentor and develop others.

You will be recognised for your sound judgement, technical expertise and ability to balance customer expectations with regulatory requirements and public safety considerations. Strong communication and relationship management skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively across teams and organisations to achieve shared outcomes.
