Job Description

As a team leader in the production engineering team, your role is to provide hands-on technical leadership and structured shift coverage across the lines. You will act as the key link between the Engineering Manager and the shift-based Engineering team, coordinating activities such as TPM execution, escalation handling, technical coaching, and performance reporting.

Working closely with Production, QA, and Materials teams, you will ensure that engineering standards are upheld and that any issues impacting line performance or product quality are resolved swiftly and effectively. The role is ideal for a driven, organised individual with strong fault-finding skills and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced production environment.

You’ll be part of a high-performing engineering function with opportunities to grow through innovation work, cross-functional projects, and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate engineering support during shift hours, ensuring effective response to breakdowns and technical issues.
  • Deliver structured daily engineering reports including performance data, escalations, and shift updates.
  • Lead the shift team in the completion of TPM schedules, audits, and Limble CMMS entries.
  • Act as the engineering escalation point for the shift – ensuring issues are followed through and resolved.
  • Support implementation of new model introduction (NMI) trials and validation activities.
  • Track shift KPIs such as MTTR, MTBF, breakdowns, scrap, setup success rates, and OEE; drive corrective and root cause investigations as needed.
  • Conduct shift-level coaching, toolbox talks, and peer learning to build technical capability.
  • Plan and manage daily shift coverage in line with skills, risks, and production demands.
  • Support CI initiatives (e.g. Red Jacket, SMED, process efficiency) and contribute ideas from the shop floor.
  • Lead by example in safety, 5S, and structured problem-solving.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in mechanical, electrical or mechatronic engineering.
  • Experience in machine maintenance or high-volume electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across production equipment.
  • Ability to lead a small team and coordinate across departments.
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal reporting skills.
  • Familiar with TPM, CMMS systems (e.g. Limble), and structured fault recording.
  • Demonstrates ownership, resilience, and a proactive attitude.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a technician or Team Leader in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) & SPC (Statistical Process Control) systems and real-time equipment monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of NMI, SMED, and lean tools.
  • Capable of presenting data and technical information clearly to stakeholders.
