Hours per week: 37.5

Salary Range: 130,000 - $165,000 Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

Design & Engineering Services (DES) is looking for an individual with an interest in participating in a fast-paced, challenging environment covering a wide range of business, engineering, and project management activities. There is a need for a Team Lead to continue to lead this growth within our Darlington and OPG engineering project portfolio. The service offerings of the Section include providing engineering support and services for a wide variety of projects focusing on Darlington NGS. In this role, the Team Lead will support project execution, sales and strategic growth objectives and continuous improvement initiatives. Embracing a strong nuclear safety culture is key to this role.

General Accountabilities

  • Support resource planning by identifying engineering projects, including work planning and assignment, availability of engineers, project coordinators, field engineers and escalating capacity constraints to management.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with existing and prospective clients to bring in orders which meet or exceed targets.
  • Monitor project budgets schedules, and deliverables against projects expectations; escalate risks and corrective action needs to Director
  • Support proposals development, client presentations, and technical / project discussions by coordinating input from technical contributors.
  • Support Director – OPG & Waste Management Projects on project execution, client priorities, performance tracking, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Promote effective collaboration across DES, project teams, field staff, and client stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and quality-focused project delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as required within the scope of a Team Lead role.

Performance and Leadership:

  • Leads by example and achieves results by effectively communicating job performance expectations.
  • Facilitate internal relationships and effective use of resources.
  • Proactively seeks to enhance the resource base.
  • Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, including scheduling and assigning work.
  • Performs managerial functions such as hiring, promotion, performance reviews, pay increases, staff development and disciplinary actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and development to employees and contribute to the recruitment of new staff.
  • Identify growth and development opportunities for team members.

Culture Development:

  • Supports Director – OPG & Waste Management Projects, DES to drive a culture of high performance and safety where everyone is committed to and accountable for delivery of performance goals and operational KPIs, ensuring a customer first culture.
  • Provides training and skill development for both day-to-day operations as well as for growth and improved performance.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement in processes and initiate/monitor corrective actions required to improve performance.
  • Creates and maintains a positive culture focused on worker morale and corporate social responsibility.

Health, Safety and Compliance:

  • Supports Director – OPG & Waste Managements Projects, DES to drive a culture of right first time/Safety First and that all scheduling, programming and monitoring work is conducted in compliance with regulations that apply to the work and customer.
  • Accountable supporting error free culture & staff behaviors by implementing human performance tools.
  • Lead by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.

Financial:

  • Ensure business systems are updated and accurate, including revenue forecasts.
  • Manage and motivate staff and team members, achieving effective utilization of resources and prioritization. Ensure effective facility management, work allocation and safe operations.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual operations budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Supports Director – OPG & Waste Management Projects, DES with maintaining service line profit and loss, material cost, labour and bottom-line results, budgeting, business planning and reporting as needed

Management and Continuous Improvement:

  • Ensure that the business strategy is well developed and based on good market and competitor knowledge. The agreed strategy is to be clearly articulated and communicated.
  • Support Supports Director – OPG & Waste Management Projects in developing a business model which drives efficiency into the business..
  • Seek to grow the scope of the product and service enhancements.
  • Build relationships with current and future customers while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure effective project management within service line.
  • Drive timely input to invoicing and collections processes.
  • Meet personal and team billability targets.

What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or Sciences. Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) designation is required.
  • 10+ years relevant work experience with preference given to those with prior nuclear project experience at Darlington site.
  • Regular travel to project sites is a must.
  • Strong familiarity with nuclear industry requirements around Human Performance Tools.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability among a team of individuals with diverse skill sets aligning them to exceed organizational goals.
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to business unit goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated a high commitment to quality and delivering on client commitments.
  • Able to gain the confidence of others, persuasive and comfortable working at all levels and across all functional areas in the organization.
  • Ability to build and maintain the working relationships with our customers and suppliers at the operating level.
  • Experience with project management and cost and scheduling analysis of projects.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and reporting requirements, particularly project financial analysis and reporting.
  • Able to effectively work with confidential and sensitive business and employee information.
  • Experience in leading projects to successful conclusions.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
