Job Description

  • Hybrid working between Petone office location and home

This is a fulltime role 40 hours per week.

The remuneration range for this role is between $126,332 to $178,337 (including KiwiSaver) depending on skills and experience.

The opportunity

As the Team Leader Stormwater and Wastewater Modelling you will lean on your high level of hydraulic modelling experience in stormwater and wastewater models to lead a team and direct consultants to deliver high-quality models and solutions to improve urban infrastructure and flood risks. You will foster growth of our stormwater and wastewater modelling team and lead workstreams for modelling programmes and support for modelling projects for the organisation.

Additionally, this role will involve:

  • Delegating and managing workloads, whilst mentoring your team

  • Managing, calibrating and maintaining hydraulic models for key projects

  • Providing input and advice to key stakeholders and supporting advice to senior leaders, boards and committee’s for investment and solutions

  • Ensure industry standard modelling platforms and best practice is used across our models

  • Working closely with external consultants and contractors and foster positive relationships

  • General team leadership including performance, financial and development aspects

About you

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Between 7-10 years experience in hydraulic modelling (relating to stormwater and/or wastewater), that is relevant to New Zealand best practice

  • Some leadership experience is ideal or proven foundations of leading others

  • Experience leading project workstreams involving modelling

  • Excellent written and verbal communication to various audiences

  • High level understanding of data and model management, codes or practice and regional standards for water services

About us

Wellington Water Ltd is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed. We’re a multi-council owned entity, tasked to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to our communities. From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions.

Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities, Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.
