The Software Engineering Team Lead is accountable for the delivery, quality, and sustainability of software produced by a small, highly skilled engineering team within Global Analytics. The role operates as a player–coach, combining hands-on technical contribution with people management, delivery leadership, and continuous improvement

The role has a specific mandate to embed AI-enabled software engineering practices across the team, establishing safe, repeatable, and scalable patterns for using tools such as Kiro and agentic development to increase delivery speed without compromising security, control, or quality.

Role & Responsibilities:

Engineering Delivery & Technical Leadership

Own engineering delivery across the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment and production support.

· Provide hands-on technical leadership, setting high standards for software design, code quality, maintainability and engineering discipline.

· Lead technical decision-making and code reviews, identifying architectural weaknesses, delivery risks and opportunities for improvement.

· Establish strong automated testing and release practices to support predictable, high-quality delivery.

· Drive resolution of complex technical and production issues, ensuring root causes are addressed through sustainable engineering improvements.

· Continuously reduce technical debt, unnecessary complexity and operational risk.

AI-Enabled Engineering Practices

· Leverage AI-assisted development tools across software design, implementation, testing, debugging and documentation.

· Apply AI-assisted engineering in accordance with established engineering, architecture, security and data protection standards.

· Ensure AI-generated code meets the same quality, security, maintainability and testing standards as manually developed code.

Technical Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

· Provide technical guidance, code review and mentoring to engineers, promoting strong engineering practices across the team.

· Work closely with Principal Engineers, DevOps, Infrastructure and Architecture teams to deliver effective, maintainable and scalable solutions.

· Promote effective documentation, knowledge transfer and shared ownership of business-critical applications.

· Communicate technical risks, dependencies, implementation trade-offs and progress clearly and proactively.

· Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.

Linux & Cloud-Native Engineering

· Design, develop and maintain modern C++ services targeting Linux, Docker and AWS EKS environments.

· Apply cloud-native engineering practices including health checks, graceful shutdown, configuration management, logging and observability.

· Lead the modernisation of existing Windows-based C++ applications towards Linux and container-based architectures.

· Work with DevOps, Infrastructure and Architecture teams to establish reliable build, deployment and operational practices.

Experience / Competences:

Essential

· Strong hands-on expertise in modern C++ (C++17 or later), including multithreading, concurrency, memory management and performance optimisation.

· Proven commercial experience developing and supporting native C++ applications on Linux.

· Strong knowledge of Linux development and debugging tools, including GCC/Clang, GDB and CMake.

· Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration technologies.

· Solid understanding of distributed systems, networking, service reliability and production troubleshooting.

· Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership to software engineering teams, including technical decision-making, code review, mentoring and engineering standards.

· Strong commitment to automated testing, maintainable software and reliable production delivery.

Desired

  • Hands-on experience with AWS EKS and associated AWS services.
  • Experience operating high-performance C++ services in containerised production environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and cloud-native deployment practices.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, asynchronous I/O and high-throughput messaging.
  • Experience modernising legacy Windows applications or migrating existing systems to Linux.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, market data, trading systems or order management platforms.
