About Us
At Seequent, we help organisations to understand the underground, giving the confidence to make better decisions faster.
We build world-leading technology that is at the forefront of Earth sciences, transforming the way our customers work. Every day we help them develop critical mineral resources more sustainably, design and build better infrastructure, source renewable energy, and reduce their impact on the environment.

The role

As the Team Lead, Software Development for Seequent Labs in Calgary, AB, you will lead a technical team and collaborate with researchers and AI scientists to deliver critical research infrastructure and cloud-based prototypes. Reporting to the Manager, Software Engineering, you will balance senior full-stack development with hands-on people, performance, and project management. This office-based role requires an agile, innovation-focused mindset, flexibility to collaborate across global time zones, and the ability to provide occasional Tier 3 after-hours support.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead & Mentor: Manage, coach, and allocate tasks to a prototyping team while fostering a positive feedback loop with research and data science teams.
  • Develop Infrastructure: Own the Labs portal, build GCP-based cloud infrastructure for high-performance computing, and drive the end-to-end delivery of complex prototypes.
  • Guide Architecture: Provide technical and architectural design guidance, evaluate trade-offs, and ensure solutions meet security and functional requirements.
  • Manage Projects: Oversee medium-scale project lifecycles, partner with leadership on prioritization, and mitigate development risks.
  • Collaborate & Transition: Engage with customers for feedback and collaborate with commercial engineering teams to transition successful prototypes into products.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7+ years of software development experience (including senior full-stack roles) and 1+ years of formal or informal team leadership.
  • Technical Skills: Deep senior full-stack technical expertise, GCP cloud capabilities, and familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to work autonomously, influence stakeholders, manage projects, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Mindset: An agile, innovation-driven growth mindset with the resilience to navigate experimental research processes.
