Job Description

The Team Lead is responsible for leading software delivery within the team, ensuring successful execution, engineering quality, and alignment between business priorities and technical implementation. The Team Lead manages a team of 3 - 6 developers depending on product complexity, balancing hands-on technical involvement with delivery accountability to ensure projects ship on time, within scope, and at production-grade quality.

Responsibilities

Delivery & Execution (Primary Focus)

  • Owns delivery planning and execution for the team, ensuring predictable delivery outcomes and alignment with business priorities.
  • Drives end-to-end delivery from requirements through production deployment, managing dependencies, risks, and blockers proactively.
  • Monitors delivery performance and continuously improves team effectiveness, quality, and delivery predictability.
  • Ensures release readiness and adherence to engineering standards, including testing, deployment safety, monitoring, rollback preparedness, security controls, and stakeholder sign-off.
  • Works closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and other teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

Technical Leadership

  • Owns solution design and technical decisions within the team's product domain, ensuring alignment with architectural standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Conducts and enforces code reviews following the secured code review guidelines; ensures the team adheres to defined coding standards and CI/CD pipeline requirements (code scan, secret key scan, web scan).
  • Makes pragmatic technical trade-off decisions — balancing delivery speed with code quality and technical debt management.
  • Coordinates and drives the resolution of production incidents, ensuring timely recovery, root cause analysis, and follow-up improvement actions are completed.
  • Stays current with the team's technology stack and contributes hands-on when critical path items require it.

People & Team Management

  • Manages a team of 3–6 developers, including workload balancing, performance management, and delivery coordination.
  • Coaches and develops team members through regular feedback, clear expectations, career development, and skill-building initiatives.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provides clear, regular delivery status updates to senior management and product stakeholders.
  • Translates business requirements into actionable technical tasks and acceptance criteria for the team.
  • Collaborates with other Team Leads to ensure cross-team alignment on standards, shared services, observability, and integration points.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of software development experience in a production environment.
  • 1+ year in a lead, senior, or tech-lead capacity — with demonstrated ownership of delivery outcomes (not just individual contribution).
  • Experience working on high-traffic or transaction-heavy systems is a strong plus.

Technical / Professional Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in .NET and/or Java with hands-on production experience; able to review code, debug issues, and contribute to critical deliverables.
  • Solid experience with relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) — able to review query performance, data models, and troubleshoot production data issues.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB) and when to apply them.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent) — understands pipeline stages including code scan, secret scan, and deployment automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and basic infrastructure concepts.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture, API design (REST/gRPC), and event-driven patterns (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
  • Experience with observability tools — logging, monitoring, tracing (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch).
  • Understanding of security best practices, including OWASP Top 10, authentication/authorization patterns (OAuth2, JWT), and PCI DSS application-level requirements.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and execution skills with a proven track record of delivering production systems successfully.
  • Experience applying AI-assisted development tools and workflows, including analysis, coding, code review, test generation, and incident investigation.
