GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Team Lead – Paint/Pack is responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in the efficient organization and coordination of assigned personnel, materials, equipment, and production activities within the Paint/Pack department. The Team Lead provides day-to-day direction to team members to support safe operations, quality standards, production schedules, material flow, and customer requirements.

The Team Lead serves as a working leader who helps coordinate daily production activities, assigns work, supports training, monitors workflow, identifies production issues, and communicates operational concerns to the Production Supervisor. The Team Lead is expected to lead by example while maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and productive work environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct daily department start-up activities and communicate production priorities, assignments, and expectations to team members.
  • Assist with paint line and Pack area setup to ensure personnel, materials, equipment, tools, and work areas are ready for production.
  • Assign daily jobs and work activities to team members based on production requirements, schedules, skill levels, and available resources.
  • Train, coach, and assist team members in performing assigned duties safely, efficiently, and according to established quality standards.
  • Monitor production activities to ensure work is completed according to schedules, routers, work instructions, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain appropriate workflow and material flow through the Paint/Pack area to minimize delays and interruptions.
  • Ensure adequate production materials, containers, fixtures, hooks, tools, and other necessary supplies are available to support production.
  • Monitor the loading and unloading of parts from the paint line and ensure parts are handled, inspected, and staged appropriately.
  • Monitor the inspection of painted parts for damage, rust, dents, watermarks, paint damage, and other quality concerns.
  • Assist in determining the appropriate disposition of non-conforming parts and communicate quality concerns to the Production Supervisor.
  • Monitor assembly, packaging, staging, and other Paint/Pack activities to ensure production and quality requirements are met.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections as needed to support quality requirements.
  • Identify potential production problems, including material shortages, equipment issues, staffing concerns, quality issues, and schedule delays, and promptly notify the Production Supervisor.
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and implement direction provided by Production Management.
  • Ensure team members follow established safety procedures, work instructions, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and an organized work environment throughout the Paint/Pack area.
  • Ensure materials are properly recycled, disposed of, or staged according to company requirements.
  • Complete and maintain production records, checklists, forms, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate production status, staffing concerns, quality issues, material shortages, equipment problems, and other relevant information to the Production Supervisor.
  • Support cross-training and development of team members to improve department flexibility and production coverage.
  • Assist management with maintaining reasonable production standards, quality expectations, and department performance.
  • Perform production work alongside team members when necessary to support departmental needs and production requirements.
  • Perform other miscellaneous and non-recurring duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP AND TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Lead is expected to:

  • Provide clear daily direction and work assignments to team members.
  • Lead by example in attendance, work ethic, safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and effective communication within the department.
  • Assist new and existing team members with job training and proper work methods.
  • Recognize and communicate performance, safety, quality, attendance, or behavioral concerns to the Production Supervisor.
  • Support management in maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.
  • Help ensure that department priorities are understood and completed according to schedule.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for team members regarding day-to-day production questions while escalating issues requiring management involvement.

The Team Lead does not independently administer disciplinary action, employment decisions, or other management actions unless specifically authorized by Production Management.

The successful candidate must have the ability to:

  • Follow written and verbal instructions and effectively communicate expectations to others.
  • Lead and organize a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Work independently while appropriately escalating issues to management.
  • Read and understand production schedules, routers, work instructions, bills of material, prints, and/or drawings as applicable to assigned work.
  • Understand customer-specific production requirements and quality expectations.
  • Identify production, quality, material, and equipment issues and communicate them effectively.
  • Train and assist employees with production processes and proper work methods.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required forms and documentation.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Work effectively with Production, Quality, Materials, Maintenance, and other departments.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Use hand tools and hand-held power tools as required for assigned production activities.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
  • Work overtime and/or adjusted schedules as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing, production, Paint/Pack, assembly, or transportation manufacturing experience.
  • Previous experience serving as a Team Lead, Lead, Trainer, or other informal leadership role.
  • Experience training or directing production employees.
  • Experience working with production schedules, routers, bills of material, prints, or work instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality and safety practices in a manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employees in this position may be required to:

  • Stand and walk for the majority of the work shift.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, reach, twist, stoop, climb, and work in various physical positions.
  • Reach overhead and handle parts and materials throughout the workday.
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and parts weighing approximately 25 pounds, with or without assistance or equipment.
  • Use hand-held power tools such as drills, impact guns, ratchets, and pop rivet guns as required.
  • Use hands and fingers to grasp, move, position, assemble, inspect, and handle various-sized parts and materials.
  • Work around manufacturing equipment, paint line operations, moving materials, and other production activities.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Remain physically active for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Team Lead works primarily in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment and is regularly exposed to production equipment, moving materials, noise, and other conditions associated with a manufacturing facility.

The Team Lead must maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and consistently follow all applicable safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Lead provides day-to-day work direction, job assignments, training, and operational guidance to assigned Paint/Pack team members.

This position assists the Production Supervisor with the coordination of personnel and production activities but does not have independent authority to make hiring, termination, compensation, or formal disciplinary decisions unless specifically delegated by management.
