Team Lead, Mammography-(2600070J)

A Brief Overview

A Mammography Technologist performs specialized X-ray examinations of the breast to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of breast cancer, ensuring patient comfort and safety while accurately positioning the breast for optimal image quality, all under the direction of a radiologist; requiring a high level of technical expertise and patient care skills to produce high-quality diagnostic images.

What You Will Do

  • Performs mammography testing and procedures on patients.
  • Performs quality mammograms following prescribed techniques, with minimal radiation exposure to patient and self.
  • Knowledge of MQSA, required QC procedures and required patient outcomes tracking.
  • Able to perform all applicable equipment quality control.
    ◦ Accurately records all requested database / log records
  • Assists radiologists as needed.
  • Takes responsibility for self development and supports learning environment.
  • Provides age-specific care to neonates through geriatrics.
  • Consistently follows hospital and department guidelines for patient identification and safety.
    ◦ Adheres to ALARA, Image Gently and Image Wisely standards
    ◦ Adheres to hospital mammography safety standards
  • Effectively follows directions to maintain compliance with State and Federal Agencies.
    ◦ Effectively follows directions to maintain department readiness based on DNV standards
  • Displays a commitment to Hospital Mission and Values
  • Maintains licensure and continuing education requirement.
    ◦ Must demonstrate the ability to work independently.
    ◦ Proficient at instructing students and new staff members after 1 year experience.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assists Supervisor in maintaining licensure and continuing education requirements of staff
  • Responsible for maintaining ACR accreditation
  • Maintains modality schedule, PTO requests, staffing to volumes in conjunction with the Supervisor ◦ Performs timekeeping edits weekly and timecard approvals where applicable
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the department and associated work areas in compliance with regulatory regulations
  • Responsible for daily billing reconciliation
  • Provides direction and guidance for departmental workflows
  • Supports the learning environment and maintains licensure and continuing education requirements of modality staff
  • Responsible for the ordering and maintenance of supply inventories as necessary for department operations
  • Responsible for PACS QC follow up and reporting patterns to the supervisor
  • Capable of assuming the duties of Supervisor as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

Education
  • Other Accredited Program: Completion of an accredited 2-year program in School of Radiologic Technology (Required)
Work Experience
  • 5+ years Registered X-ray technologist with at least 1 year experience preferred (Preferred) and
  • 5+ years Registered Mammography technologist with at least 5 years experience preferred (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Proficient at instructing students and new staff after one year experience (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Clear knowledge of modality specific equipment computers, pacs, EMR and RIS (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Must demonstrate ability to work independently (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Excellent knowledge of imaging and exam protocols (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Knowledge in all areas of MQSA (Preferred)
  • 5+ years Ability to assist Supervisor and act as the lead in their absence (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of X-Ray unit, computers, wheel chairs, O2 tanks, immobilization devices, PACS and radiology information system. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to operate mammography equipment. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of QC and MQSA standards. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Technologist Mammography (ARRT-M) (Required Upon Hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)
  • Registered and member in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology – RT(R) (Required Upon Hire)
  • Current license in the State of Ohio (Required Upon Hire)
