Environmental Services Lead Associate
Location: Methodist Hospital
Schedule: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Shift Requirements: Rotating weekends and holidays
Attendance Expectations
Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Team members are expected to consistently report to work as scheduled to support patient care, operational needs, and departmental staffing requirements. Regular attendance is critical to ensuring a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and team members.
Responsibilities
- Provides non-supervisory leadership and frontline support to Environmental Services (EVS) team members.
- Assists with coordinating daily task assignments, training and onboarding new team members, ensuring readiness of supplies and equipment, and supporting performance standards through quality checks and peer coaching.
- Acts as a role model for quality, safety, professionalism, and accountability while fostering a positive team culture and ensuring consistent execution of departmental policies and procedures.
- Assists in coordinating daily work assignments and coverage plans to ensure uninterrupted service delivery across assigned areas.
- Leads or supports team huddles, shift briefings, and ongoing communication among EVS team members.
- Participates in inventory management, supply readiness, and organization of equipment, materials, and storage areas.
- Serves as a peer leader in high-pressure, complex, or sensitive care environments while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
- Conducts quality inspections and performance audits, supports real-time resolution of concerns, and escalates issues to leadership when appropriate.
- Supports infection prevention initiatives and environmental standards to promote a safe and welcoming hospital environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent years of experience preferred.
- Requires 3-5 years of Environmental Services, housekeeping, hospitality, healthcare support, or related experience.
- Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) credentialing is required for those newly hired or promoted into the position after October 5, 2025. Individuals hired or promoted after this date will have six (6) months to obtain the credential.
- Requires working knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, cleaning techniques, and procedures related to emergency spills and hazardous or infectious materials.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the execution of departmental programs, service standards, or operational protocols with minimal supervision.
- Ability to serve as an extension of leadership by reinforcing accountability, service excellence, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Demonstrated ability to follow and reinforce hospital policies, safety protocols, infection prevention practices, and cleanliness standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively coach, support, and influence peers.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective clothing in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
- Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds or more, while wearing required PPE.
- Ability to work rotating weekends, holidays, and other schedule adjustments as needed to meet departmental and patient care needs.
