As Team Lead, Design Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for the design, modification and sustenance of connectors & cable assemblies within the Datacom & Specialty Solutions portfolio. You will coordinate the design process, guide team activities and help move products from concept through volume production while meeting customer, regulatory, quality, cost and schedule requirements.

Our Team

The Design Engineering team works across product engineering, project management, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, supply chain, sales and marketing. The role supervises a team of 5 to 10 engineers and collaborates globally with customers, suppliers and vendors on technical matters, including complex, sensitive and confidential discussions. The team drives design, 3D modeling, 2D drawings, engineering changes, technical documentation and product testing in alignment with internal product development procedures and ISO/QS requirements.

What You Will Do

• Lead engineers working on new product design, product modification and sustenance projects from concept development through volume production.
• Partner with manufacturing and quality engineering to develop manufacturing processes using 3D CAD modeling, design-for-manufacturing practices and quality tools.
• Provide technical support to customers, suppliers and product marketing stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering and project management stakeholders to meet product performance, quality, cost and timing requirements.
• Work globally with sourcing teams and vendors to bring products into production.
• Perform verification activities to confirm designs meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements and environmental test requirements.
• Review engineering, manufacturing and sales drawings for completeness and accuracy.
• Drive engineering execution across design, 3D modeling, 2D drawings, engineering changes, technical documents and product testing.
• Develop a team culture and working practices aligned with MBM guiding principles.
• Own team training, capability building and career development.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Bachelor's/Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of experience.
• At least 5 years of product design in managing a team.
• Experience involving connector & cable assemblies for interconnect application.
• Experience in product design involving electromechanical assemblies or components.
• Experience in product design aspects like DFM, DFMEA, Tolerance Stacks, FEA etc.
• Experience designing plastic, die-cast and sheet-metal components for cable assemblies.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving techniques.
• Proven track record of handling a team of product design engineers.
• Proficiency in solid-modeling software to create 3D models and 2D drawings.
• Analytical ability to apply logical reasoning, test assumptions, observe results and make corrections.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Education or additional learning in product design and manufacturing.
• Interconnect product design experience involving connector & cable assemblies
• 10+ years of product design experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and support a team of engineers.
• Strong knowledge of plastic, die-casting, sheet-metal and machined component design and related manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in finite element analysis or related software for failure analysis.
• Experience with Material Master or bill-of-material loading software.
• Proficiency in Siemens NX 11 and PLM/PDM systems.
