Caregivers on Martin South Hospital’s 3A Medical Telemetry Unit provide care to patients who require continuous monitoring of their cardiac and respiratory functions due to conditions such as heart disease, risk of arrhythmia or recovery from a cardiac event like a heart attack orsurgery.Asa Team Center Coordinator on the team, you will providea high levelof customer service to patients, families,visitorsand caregivers to promote and support the highest level of patient experience. In this role, you will perform administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow while also providing orassistingwith basic direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). A caregiver in this position worksdays from 7:00AM – 7:30PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.

  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.

  • Communicate andfacilitatecommunication with patients, families, otherdepartmentsand health care team membersregardingpatient care.

  • Assistwith processing patient admissions,transfersand discharges.

  • Assistpatients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.

  • Assemble andmaintainpatient medical records and other documents related to patient care.

  • Assistwith unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones,WOWsand other unit devices.

  • Provide orassistwith basic patient care activities, such as vital signs, weights, personal care, activities of daily living, patient transfers and transports, pulse oximetry and point of care testing.

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical,mentalor emotional condition to an RN.

  • Assistwith keeping patient rooms clean & orderly

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchoolDiploma or GED

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • One year of recent, full-time experience in patient care or customer service ORadditionaleducation/training OR a nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing program

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

  • Experience with typing, computertrainingor equivalent coursework

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Microsoft Office experience

  • One year of Clinical Technician experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.

  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

  • Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye/hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
