Requirements

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is seeking a Teaching Assistant that supports student engagement and academic success by facilitating understanding of course materials through review sessions, and dedicated office hours. Working closely with GU-Q faculty, this role assists with instructional operations, including course management system (LMS) administration, attendance monitoring, exam proctoring, and grading.

As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only. The position is temporary and the expected term is August through December 2026.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support student engagement with and understanding of course materials through class attendance and interaction, recitation sections, review of materials, feedback to students, coordination with faculty, and consultation with students.
  • Develop strategies and expertise in learning facilitation through on-going training, supervision and mentoring as part of an interdisciplinary student success unit.

Key Activities:

  • Attend meetings and complete readings for assigned courses.
  • Communicate and collaborate with GUQ faculty and OAS staff.
  • Participate in relevant OAS training, supervision and mentoring sessions.
  • Hold office hours to assist students with course work.
  • Assist assigned professors with in-class discussions.
  • Assist assigned professors with feedback on student written drafts.
  • Assist assigned professors with monitoring class attendance.
  • Assist assigned professors with exam proctoring.
  • Assist assigned professors with course LMS.
  • Assist assigned professors with objective grading, as appropriate.
  • Conduct review sessions, as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of introductory level political philosophy and international relations theory
  • Working knowledge of Canvas LMS management.
  • Good knowledge of or desire to learn active, adaptive, and experiential learning strategies.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and forward thinking, with the ability to inspire others, particularly students.
  • Ability to learn and use educational technologies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and consensus-building skills, with the ability to work with diverse individuals across various cultural and institutional environments.
  • Intellectual curiosity within one’s field and the higher education landscape.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to the GU-Q curriculum.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • GU-Q graduates currently enrolled or recently completed post-graduate programs preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience as undergraduate tutor, mentor, or academic assistant preferred.
  • Superior performance and engagement as an undergraduate student.
