Summary of Job Duties:

The Teaching Assistant Professor of Entomology and Extension Outreach is responsible for developing a nationally recognized teaching program in entomology. They will serve as an instructor of entomology courses and lead departmental undergraduate programs on the LIA-Fayetteville campus.

Cooperative Extension duties will include public engagement and education events, and coordination with statewide 4-H efforts. The successful candidate will teach a large­ enrollment undergraduate course and design and coordinate the affiliated lab sections, and other courses. Other responsibilities include coordination of departmental undergraduate minor programs in entomology and pest management, recruitment of honors students to departmental programs, and guidance of student clubs.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, development of innovative instructional materials and tools, and public outreach methods. This could include development of online course offerings, developments in pedagogy, and mentoring of undergraduate research projects. The candidate will provide service to the institution and state as appropriate and collaborate effectively with teaching and extension colleagues.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

This is an in-person position. Most University classes are offered face-to-face, and this role requires regular on-campus presence to support high-quality instruction and student learning. Participation in selected departmental or programmatic activities that advance teaching quality and student success is also expected, consistent with the responsibilities of non-tenure track faculty as defined by the academic appointment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment
• Experience in undergraduate instruction in entomology or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in public outreach and/or Cooperative Extension programming related to entomology, agriculture, or biological sciences
• Valid Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications: 

• At least three years of experience in undergraduate teaching, extension programming, outreach, or a combination thereof
• Experience as instructor of record for one or more undergraduate lecture courses
• Experience teaching large-enrollment undergraduate courses (e.g., ≥50 students per semester)
• Experience designing, coordinating, or supervising laboratory sections associated with undergraduate courses
• Experience coordinating academic programs, minors, student organizations, or undergraduate recruitment initiatives
• Demonstrated use of evidence-based teaching practices, active learning, or student-centered instructional approaches
• Experience developing online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced instructional materials
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research, honors students, or experiential learning projects
• Experience developing and delivering Cooperative Extension and outreach programming in entomology, pest management, plant health, or related disciplines
• Experience working with 4-H, K-12 educational programs, youth development programs, or other public engagement efforts
• Experience collaboratively working with a variety of stakeholders across multiple locations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability and willingness to travel throughout Arkansas to deliver Extension and outreach programming, including educational programs utilizing a mobile arthropod classroom
• Ability to collaborate with faculty, extension personnel, and stakeholders across multiple locations
• Effective oral and written communication skills
