Victoria College: Education & Society Program

Position: Teaching Assistant (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2)

EDS261H1S: Child and Adolescent Development in Education
This course examines how children and adolescents develop and explores how best to facilitate their growth and learning in the area of education. Major topics include cognitive, emotional, social, moral, physical and language development. Themes addressed include interpersonal relationships such as pro-social and aggressive behaviour, as well as the influence of schooling, family life and culture. This course includes an experiential learning component whereby students will profile a child based on their cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development.

Qualifications required:
• Graduate student in Education or Developmental Psychology (Ph.D. students preferred but Master-level students will be considered). Preference in hiring will be given to graduate students at the University of Toronto and those with prior TA experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of key theories and current research in child and adolescent development, including cognitive, emotional, social, moral, physical, and language development.
• Familiarity with the application of developmental theory to educational settings, including classroom practices, curriculum planning, and student engagement strategies.
• Passion for learning and teaching
• Must have excellent time management skills
• Must have strong oral and written communication skills
• Must have high capacity for objective, consistent evaluation of student performance

of duties:
The TA will mark student assignments, respond to assignment-related inquiries from students, track student attendance, monitor participation in classes and lead small-group tutorials (as needed).
