About the Apprenticeship
This role is offered as part of a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship, providing an excellent opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst developing practical experience in art education.

An apprenticeship lets you learn while you work, helping you gain a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll spend time both in the studio, getting hands-on experience, and learning the skills you need. Each week, you’ll have set time just for training and study, so you can complete your qualification successfully.

The Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification provides a strong foundation for individuals interested in supporting children and young people in their learning and development, with opportunities to progress into teaching, mentoring, educational support, or creative leadership roles.

art-K is the UK’s largest private art education service, delivering fun, skill-based classes to over 8,500 children each week. Our programmes help develop artistic skills, build confidence, and support mental well-being through inspiring projects taught by passionate educators.

At our art-K Croxley Green branch, as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will support the delivery of art-K's structured art programme, helping students of all abilities develop their artistic skills in a fun, supportive environment. You will receive full training in art-K's teaching methodology and benefit from ongoing coaching and development throughout your apprenticeship.

This is a part-time apprenticeship with a fixed term-time schedule and adjusted hours during school holidays.

Working Hours

• Term Time: 24.25 hours a week

Monday 18:15 - 21:30pm,

Tuesday 12:00 - 18:00pm,

Wednesday 12:30 - 20:30pm,

Saturday 8:00am - 16:00pm,

This role includes leading the adult classes that will take place on Monday and Wednesday.

School Holidays (14 weeks/year): Same number of weekly hours - 24.25hours, worked Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm (daily schedule varies based on studio needs)

Salary: £8.25 – £10 per hour (based on experience)

Start date: July/August

Job Responsibilities

Teaching & Student Development

• Support the delivery of engaging art classes, workshops, and parties.

• Learn and apply the art-K teaching methodology to support students of varying ages, abilities, and learning styles.

• Adapt teaching approaches and resources to meet individual student needs.

• Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support development.

• Demonstrate artistic techniques and use of materials confidently across a variety of projects.

• Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress and achievements.

Behaviour, Safeguarding & Wellbeing

• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

• Uphold classroom expectations and behaviour management strategies.

• Follow art-K's safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

• Seek guidance from safeguarding and behaviour teams when required.

• Complete all required safeguarding, health and safety, and compliance training.

Studio Operations & Administration

• Prepare materials and resources for classes and workshops.

• Assist with sketchbook preparation and project organisation.

• Maintain high standards of studio presentation, cleanliness, and organisation.

• Respond to customer emails and enquiries.

• Assist with phone calls, reviews, and general customer communication.

• Support local marketing and promotional activities to help grow student enrolment.

Professional Development

• Participate fully in apprenticeship training and ongoing professional development.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high-quality delivery across the studio.

• Reflect on your practice and actively seek feedback to improve your teaching and support skills.

• Develop the confidence and skills required to take increasing responsibility within the studio environment.

Additional Support

• Provide occasional support at other art-K studios during periods of staff absence, training, or holiday cover (additional hours and travel expenses paid where applicable).

• Support the delivery of holiday workshops and special events.

• As the role develops, there may be opportunities to support the establishment of adult art classes within existing studio facilities.

Required Qualifications

• Level 2 in Maths & English

• Level 2 in Art

• Level 3 in Art is preferable but not required

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

• Strong organisational and time-management abilities.

• Basic computer literacy and confidence using digital systems for day-to-day administrative tasks.

• Ability to learn new art projects, teaching techniques, and behavioural strategies quickly.

Artistic Skills

Practical experience across a range of artistic media and techniques, including:

• Acrylic painting

• Watercolour

• Oil pastels

• Soft pastels

• Oils

• Inks

• Clay

• Papier-mâché

• Paper sculpture
