Job Description
General Summary:
The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support the success of the class and students by providing students with additional academic support in a professional manner. The TA assists students in understanding content by using various teaching/tutoring strategies. A TA must be available to
provide extra assistance to individual students as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in grading homework, quizzes, and exams in the online section of course.
- Monitor online discussion boards, conduct online course communication with students, and assist during synchronous discussions.
- Prepare the course site prior to the start of the course.
- The site may include assignment descriptions and deadlines, grade book calculations, group and class discussion forums, student resources, practice exams, and mid-term course evaluations.
- Require the student to outline a teaching module for future online teaching assistants. This module must include documents for preparing new teaching assistants, troubleshooting tips, and information on fostering a productive working relationship with a professor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree. Completed Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in the relevant course content area preferred.
