Job Description

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to help support students during our Summer Transition Program. In this role, you will work alongside the Summer Camp Instructor to provide hands-on support in the classroom, on campus, and during community activities. You will help students build academic, social, career, and independent living skills while encouraging confidence and participation in daily activities.

This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with students, supporting learning, and helping young adults prepare for college, work, and independent living.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Summer Camp Instructor with lessons, activities, and student engagement in classroom and community settings.
  • Provide support to students during individual and small-group activities.
  • Help students develop academic, job-readiness, social, and independent living skills.
  • Support students in using assistive technology, Braille, and other accessible learning tools.
  • Assist with career readiness activities such as résumé writing, interview practice, workplace communication, and professional behavior.
  • Help prepare and adapt learning materials into accessible formats such as large print, Braille, tactile graphics, and digital materials.
  • Support students during campus navigation and community-based activities.
  • Assist with tracking student progress and completing program-related activities as directed by program staff.
  • Communicate and collaborate with instructors, supervisors, staff, families, and community partners to support student success.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and other required program activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Candidates currently pursuing a degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related fields are preferred.
  • One year of experience supporting transition-aged youth (high school through young adulthood) preferred.
  • Valid NJ driver's license with no more than 5 points.
  • Ability to successfully pass and maintain all required state and federal background checks, including criminal history, Central Registry, and CARI checks, as well as all required pre-employment and ongoing drug screenings.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively while exercising sound judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to foster independence, confidence, and self-determination in students.
