Job Description

GOAL:

Work with developmentally delayed students in a self-contained preschool setting, while creating and maintaining a learning environment that supports students toward the fulfillment of their potential for academic achievement, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district
3. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
4. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
7. Screen and evaluate children for developmental delays
8. Coordinate and write Individual Education Plans for children eligible for preschool services
9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
10. Diagnosis the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
11. Counsels with colleagues, students and/or parents n a regular basis
12. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis
13. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
14. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy
15. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
16. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance
17. Attends and participates in faculty meetings
18. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods
19. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
20. Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned
21. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
22. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others
23. Provides for his/her professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. BA or MA in Special Education
2. Valid AZ State Fingerprint Clearance Card
3. Valid AZ Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Certificate OR Valid AZ Special Education Certificate with Early Childhood Endorsement or equivalent certification in another state with ability to receive immediate reciprocal certification in Arizona.
4. Experience working with children ages 2.9 - 5 preferred
5. CPI Training preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with staff, students, and community members.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls and use a keyboard or keypad. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk or sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus and monitor students on the periphery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee regularly works indoors.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SALARY:

Per Board Approved Special Education Teacher Starting Salary Guide

PLUS $3,000 Stipend for Special Education Certification

PLUS $1,000 Stipend for Self Contained Classroom

PLUS up to $7,500 Prop 301 Pay

Monday-Friday/40 Hours
